00:30And in another development, the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government says it is facilitating the transportation of students, particularly Form 6 students, scheduled to sit compulsory CAP examinations on Thursday and Friday to their respective schools.
00:46Further details were provided during the post-Cabinet media briefing by Rural Development and Local Government Minister Khadija Amin.
00:54Transport was provided in the form of troop carriers from the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment.
01:04The regional corporations provided trucks and our disaster management unit provided dinghies or small boats.
01:12We were able to provide transport for students from Las Lomas to Shoguanas Secondary Schools.
01:20The Tunapuna-Piaco Corporation Municipal Police provided escort for students from Konupia to Lachmi Girls and St. Francois Girls.
01:30Minister Amin said the boats and trucks were deployed in the Penal-Day Bay, Sanjigrandi, Tunapuna-Piaco and Kuva-Tabakit-Talparo regions as she thanked the regiment for their support.
01:41We have CAP examinations continuing tomorrow and all support systems will remain in place to ensure that students arrive safely.
01:52The ministry said that to date it has received reports of residential flooding in areas including Piaco, Arima, Sanjigrandi, Shoguanas,
02:01Petersville Road, Chinchin, Konupia, Las Lomas, San Rafael and Brazil Village under the Kuva-Tabakit Corporation.
02:09However, the ministry said no major infrastructural damage or severe incidents have been recorded.
02:16The ministry also announced a collaboration with the National Schools Dietary Services Limited
02:20to address what the ministry said were disruptions to school meal delivery services caused by widespread flooding on Wednesday morning.
02:28The ministry said a total of 391 lunches were distributed to ensure continued support for students, communities, emergency response volunteers and staff as follows.
02:40Penal-Day Bay Regional Corporation, 171 lunches.
02:45Tunapuna-Piaco Regional Corporation, 120 lunches.
02:49Kuva-Tabakit-Talparo Regional Corporation, 100 lunches.
02:53These meals were provided by caterers on the school feeding program, but these meals went to support students, first responders, volunteers and marooned persons.
03:07We appreciate that and it also meant that our conversation has started about incorporating the school nutrition program in our planning for disaster preparedness.
03:21As shown in this express video of the work done in Penal-Day Bay, Minister Amin said a total of 450 sandbags have been distributed between Wednesday and Thursday.
