00:00 It is to be hybrid schooling for some students come Monday, as the Education Minister confirms
00:06 that a handful of schools will not be quite ready to accommodate the full school population.
00:12 In four cases, the required infrastructure repair work will not be completed for all
00:16 students to be physically accommodated at school on September 4, 2023.
00:20 In those cases, arrangements for a hybrid mode of teaching and learning have been approved,
00:26 with the examination students being accommodated physically, while the other students will be
00:31 engaged virtually. A total of 737 projects were undertaken for fiscal 2022-2023,
00:39 at a budgeted cost of $322 million. Included in the 737 projects that have been done for
00:47 the fiscal thus far, there are 180 projects which were specifically executed in July-August 2023.
00:56 The total approved cost of projects for this period was $231 million. These projects consisted
01:03 approximately of 4% sewer works, 26% electrical works, 36% roof works, 16% plumbing works,
01:12 and 80% of other miscellaneous works such as AC repairs, painting and landscaping.
01:18 As at Friday, with just two more days to go until schools reopen,
01:23 the minister indicates that 74% of scheduled works has been completed.
01:28 As far as possible, where the scopes of work undertaken during this vacation period were
01:34 too extensive to be completed in this time, the most critical aspects were completed first,
01:40 and the ongoing works have been scheduled during evening and weekends so as to allow
01:45 for uninterrupted school operations. Ranassa Katteng, TV6 News.
