As the nation commemorated Indian Arrival Day, the Tobago Hindu Society announced a major milestone for the island's Hindu community.

Construction of Tobago's first Hindu temple at Signal Hill is now 85 percent complete, bringing a decades-long vision closer to reality.

00:25This milestone represents years of commitment.
00:28B-Path described the project as the result of years of dedication and the fulfillment of a long-held dream
00:37for generations of Hindus in Tobago.
00:39Indian Arrival Day celebrations also provided an opportunity to reflect on the history and contributions of East Indians to Trinidad
00:48and Tobago.
00:49This evening is more than just a celebration of Indian Arrival Day.
00:53It is a celebration of perseverance, faith, sacrifice, and progress.
01:00Our ancestors arrived on these shores carrying little more than hope, determination, and belief in a better future.
01:09Deputy Chief Secretary Dr. Faith Brebner, in delivering remarks, hailed the significant contributions of the East Indian community in Tobago.
01:19And we in Tobago truly honor and respect and welcome the contributions that you have made to this country known
01:29as Trinidad and Tobago, but particularly to this island known as Tobago.
01:36We have been at this concept of development for a while, and in particular the Tobago House of Assembly is
01:45one whose aim is to ensure that we create an island that is welcoming, that is developed, that is loving,
01:52that is caring, that is understanding, and that is respectful of all that all of us bring together.
