00:00:00So on this Easter Sunday we've got the title of the sermon is the timeline of the crucifixion.

00:00:07The timeline of the crucifixion.

00:00:08So when I was thinking a couple weeks ago of what to preach on,

00:00:12I realized that I've not done a timeline of the crucifixion of the way it is in chronological order.

00:00:21I told you I've been going through the Bible and chronology.

00:00:24And it's interesting that sometimes the way the Bible is laid out, chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3,

00:00:30is not exactly in chronological order.

00:00:33So let's first go to 1 Corinthians 15.

00:00:36The most important thing is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

00:00:41It's called the gospel. It's called the good news. That's what it's called.

00:00:451 Corinthians 15 verse 1 says,

00:00:47Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preach unto you,

00:00:53which also you have received, and wherein ye stand, by which also ye are saved.

00:01:00So it's the gospel that saves us.

00:01:03If you keep in memory what I preach unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

00:01:08So a lot of people just believe in the historical Jesus.

00:01:13But what Paul is telling us here is if you believe in vain,

00:01:17and you just don't believe about the death, burial, and resurrection.

00:01:22Because none of us have seen the death, burial, and resurrection.

00:01:26We have to take the Word of God and believe it and understand it.

00:01:30For I believed unto you, first of all,

00:01:33that which I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

00:01:38and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.

00:01:44So the gospel is the death that He died on the cross for all our sins,

00:01:51the burial that His body was buried in the tomb,

00:01:55and that He resurrected three days later on the third day.

00:01:59So that's what it is.

00:02:00And what's interesting about the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John,

00:02:05they have different accounts.

00:02:06Like, you can go to two of them.

00:02:09Not all of them have the birth of Christ.

00:02:11You have Matthew and Luke talks about the birth of Christ.

00:02:14Not all of them talk about Lazarus' death and His resurrection.

00:02:18But the one thing that is true,

00:02:20we have the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

00:02:24Every single one of them has the account of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection.

00:02:28Now, the first thing I want you to understand is that each gospel is kind of written geared towards a different audience.

00:02:37Matthew is written towards the Jews.

00:02:39It has the most Old Testament Scripture where Jesus is quoting the Old Testament,

00:02:45and He's talking about the Jews and what they used to do in the Passover.

00:02:51The book of Mark is written towards the Romans,

00:02:53and the book of Luke is written towards the Greeks,

00:02:55because the book of Luke, we're going to see in a minute,

00:02:59it is the book that hammers most about the bodily resurrection.

00:03:02If you remember in the book of Acts,

00:03:04Paul had to constantly remind people about the bodily resurrection.

00:03:09Well, the book of Luke does that.

00:03:11And then the book of John, which we've just finished recently,

00:03:14is more universal.

00:03:16You see words like the Jews' feast day,

00:03:20and talking about the Jewish holidays and stuff.

00:03:23So, it's geared more to a more universal or a non-Jewish audience.

00:03:29So, with that in mind, the first point of the timeline is that the Jews plan to kill Jesus.

00:03:35The Jews, they make a plan to kill Jesus.

00:03:37Go to Matthew 26.

00:03:40Matthew 26.

00:03:41I'm going to be skipping around from the different gospels,

00:03:45because just like I said,

00:03:46each one of them has the account of the death, burial, and resurrection,

00:03:50but some of them have more information and better information.

00:03:54It doesn't mean that it's not true.

00:03:56They're just giving you the account of what they witnessed

00:03:58through the inspiration of all these people.

00:04:01So, look at Matthew 26, verse 1.

00:04:03And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings,

00:04:10he said unto his disciples,

00:04:12You know that after two days is the feast of the Passover,

00:04:15and the Son of Man is betrayed to be crucified.

00:04:18Then assembled together the chief priests and the scribes

00:04:21and the elders of the people into the palace of the high priest,

00:04:25who was called Caiaphas,

00:04:27and consulted that they might take Jesus by subtlety and kill him.

00:04:32But they said,

00:04:33Not on the feast day,

00:04:35lest there be an uproar among the people.

00:04:38So, I'm going to hammer this point,

00:04:40because, you know, we just went through Friday,

00:04:43and, you know, I just drove by a big Catholic church,

00:04:46and there's just tons and tons of people coming out,

00:04:48and they call it the Good Friday.

00:04:51Folks, Jesus was not crucified on Friday.

00:04:54That was the feast day.

00:04:56They couldn't do that.

00:04:57And this is a good point,

00:04:59that it says not on the feast day.

00:05:01And we're going to get to that point in a minute.

00:05:03Now go to John 11.

00:05:05You see another account of the Jews planning to kill Jesus.

00:05:09They made it clear,

00:05:10we can't do it on a feast day,

00:05:12because if we do,

00:05:14they'll uproar against us.

00:05:16Look at John 11, verse 45.

00:05:19Then many of the Jews,

00:05:21which came to Mary,

00:05:22had seen the things which Jesus did,

00:05:25and believed on Him.

00:05:27So, not all the Jews didn't believe,

00:05:29but when they became believers,

00:05:31they became Christians and not Jews,

00:05:33because it's a religion, not a race.

00:05:35But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees,

00:05:38and told them what things Jesus had done.

00:05:40Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees,

00:05:44a council,

00:05:45and said,

00:05:45What do we?

00:05:47For this man doeth many miracles.

00:05:49Look at verse 48.

00:05:51This is why they're scared.

00:05:52If we let him thus alone,

00:05:54all men will believe on him,

00:05:57and the Romans

00:05:58shall come and take away both our place and nation.

00:06:04So, they're scared that if people believed on Jesus,

00:06:07everybody would.

00:06:09Which is not true.

00:06:10Not everybody believes on Jesus.

00:06:11Jesus clearly said that more people would go to hell than heaven.

00:06:15So, that's not true.

00:06:16But they're scared that they'll lose their authority,

00:06:20the chief priests,

00:06:21and that they wanted to be in the upper rooms.

00:06:24They wanted to be that authority

00:06:25that could go directly to the Roman Pilate,

00:06:29and all these Romans that are higher up.

00:06:33And one of them named Caiaphas,

00:06:34being the high priest that same year,

00:06:36said unto them,

00:06:37You know nothing at all,

00:06:38nor consider that it is expedient for us

00:06:41that one man should die for the people,

00:06:43and that the whole nation perish not.

00:06:45And this spake he not of himself,

00:06:47but being high priest that year,

00:06:50he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation.

00:06:54And not for that nation only,

00:06:55but also he should gather together

00:06:57in one of the children of God

00:07:00that were scattered abroad.

00:07:01So, nowhere in the Bible,

00:07:11nowhere in the Old Testament

00:07:12does it say that one man

00:07:14is supposed to die for the nation.

00:07:16We know that they did animal sacrifices.

00:07:19So, this is just silly for him to say that.

00:07:22This is just him wanting to do what he wants to do.

00:07:25But, it is kind of prophetic that Jesus did

00:07:29die for all nations,

00:07:31for all people's sins.

00:07:32That's the first thing.

00:07:33The Jews plan to kill Jesus.

00:07:35Number two is Judas agrees to betray Jesus.

00:07:40Judas agrees to betray Jesus.

00:07:42Go to Luke 22.

00:07:47So, you've got to understand that

00:07:49Judas, he was a very wicked man.

00:07:53He, money drove him.

00:07:56So, how did he figure it out?

00:07:58I used to think that they came to Judas to do this,

00:08:01but it's just the opposite.

00:08:03Judas came to the Pharisees saying,

00:08:06hey, I can get you too close to Jesus.

00:08:09So, apparently it was known abroad

00:08:11that this was wanting to happen,

00:08:13that these Pharisees wanted to get close to Jesus,

00:08:16but they didn't know how.

00:08:17Luke 22, verse 1,

00:08:19Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew nigh,

00:08:22which is called the Passover,

00:08:24and the chief priests and scribes

00:08:25sought how they might kill him,

00:08:26for they feared the people.

00:08:28Then entered Satan into Judas' surname Niskeriut.

00:08:33So, Satan entered into Judas,

00:08:35so we know he's not saved,

00:08:37he's obviously possessed by the devil,

00:08:39being of the number of the twelve.

00:08:42And he went his way

00:08:43and communed with the chief priests and captains

00:08:47how he might betray him unto them.

00:08:49And they were glad,

00:08:50and covenanted him to give him money.

00:08:52And he promised and sought opportunity to betray him

00:08:55unto them in the absence of the multitude.

00:08:59So, Judas goes to them.

00:09:01So, apparently he obviously heard

00:09:03that was what was going on for him to do that.

00:09:06And he does that for a reason.

00:09:08Go to Matthew 26.

00:09:09See, each account tells you something different.

00:09:15We see that this is where the Bible tells us

00:09:18that Judas goes to them

00:09:19and that Satan enters inside of him.

00:09:23None of the other Gospels reveal that.

00:09:27Look at Matthew 26.

00:09:28We're going to see something else revealed.

00:09:29And it came to pass,

00:09:31this is Matthew 26, verse 14.

00:09:35Then one of the twelve called Judas Iscariot

00:09:37went unto the chief priests and said unto them,

00:09:40What will you give me?

00:09:42And I will deliver him unto you.

00:09:45And they covenanted with him

00:09:46thirty pieces of silver.

00:09:49And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

00:09:51See, in the account of Luke,

00:09:53it doesn't tell us about the thirty pieces of silver.

00:09:55But here it does that he was offered thirty pieces of silver,

00:10:00which is not much money to betray the Lord's Savior.

00:10:05But that's what he was offered.

00:10:07And he took it.

00:10:08Look at number three is the presentation of the Lamb.

00:10:11Last Sunday was Palm Sunday.

00:10:14It's when the presentation of the Lamb.

00:10:16Go to John 12.

00:10:20It's known as Palm Sunday

00:10:21when the people got together

00:10:23and they're putting down palm trees,

00:10:25palm limbs on the ground.

00:10:28And Jesus is walking on a small donkey,

00:10:32which is to show his being king,

00:10:36but not a,

00:10:37he's a meekness,

00:10:39shows his meekness.

00:10:40Look at John 12, 12.

00:10:41I'll let the Bible tell you that.

00:10:43On the next day,

00:10:44much people that were come to the feast,

00:10:46so you've got to understand,

00:10:47all these people are coming to Jerusalem

00:10:49to the Passover.

00:10:52They're on their way.

00:10:52They're getting there.

00:10:54But they're not yet there yet.

00:10:55This is the tenth day of the month,

00:10:57which is,

00:10:59was Sunday.

00:11:00Palm Sunday.

00:11:01Took branches of palm trees

00:11:03and went forward to meet him

00:11:04and cried,

00:11:05Hosanna!

00:11:06Blessed is the king of Israel

00:11:07that cometh in the name of the Lord.

00:11:09And Jesus,

00:11:09when he had found a young ass,

00:11:12sat there on,

00:11:13as it is written,

00:11:14Fear not, daughter of Zion.

00:11:16Behold,

00:11:16thy king cometh,

00:11:18sitting on an ass's coat.

00:11:19These things understood not his disciples at the first,

00:11:23but when Jesus was glorified,

00:11:25then remember they that these things were written of him

00:11:29and that they had done these things unto him.

00:11:31The people,

00:11:32therefore,

00:11:32that was with him

00:11:33when he had called Lazarus out of his grave

00:11:37and raised him from the dead,

00:11:38bear record.

00:11:39For this cause,

00:11:40the people also met him.

00:11:42For that they heard he had done this miracle,

00:11:44the Pharisees therefore said among themselves,

00:11:47Perceive you how you prevail nothing.

00:11:50Behold,

00:11:50the world is gone after him.

00:11:52So now they realize,

00:11:53hey,

00:11:54the whole world is gone after him.

00:11:56Well,

00:11:56it's just not.

00:11:56It's a small city.

00:11:57It's not the whole world.

00:11:59So we see a verse

00:12:00in verse 15

00:12:02that it comes from the Old Testament.

00:12:05Go to Zechariah 9.

00:12:08Zechariah.

00:12:09Go to Old Testament.

00:12:11The last book in the Old Testament is Malachi.

00:12:13The next one is Zechariah chapter 9.

00:12:18See,

00:12:18they had the Old Testament.

00:12:19There's thousands of years between Malachi

00:12:21and events that happened with Jesus.

00:12:24They had that.

00:12:25They had that in written form.

00:12:26Not everybody,

00:12:27but most people did.

00:12:29Look at Zechariah 9.9.

00:12:31This is what the verse

00:12:32that is saying

00:12:33that this is coming true.

00:12:35This is the prophecy coming true.

00:12:37Rejoice greatly,

00:12:38O daughter of Zion.

00:12:39Shout,

00:12:40O daughter of Jerusalem.

00:12:41Behold,

00:12:42thy king cometh unto thee.

00:12:44He is just

00:12:45and having salvation

00:12:46lowly

00:12:47and riding upon an ass

00:12:48and upon a colt

00:12:50of the fallen of ass.

00:12:52And I will cut the chariot

00:12:53from Ephraim

00:12:54and the horse from Jerusalem.

00:12:56And the battle bow

00:12:57shall be cut off.

00:12:58He shall speak unto the heathen.

00:13:00And his dominion

00:13:00shall be from the sea,

00:13:02even the sea,

00:13:02and from the river,

00:13:03even to the ends of the earth.

00:13:04So this is a prophecy

00:13:05about the Lord Jesus Christ coming.

00:13:08And this is when this has happened.

00:13:09On Palm Sunday.

00:13:11So now go to Exodus 12

00:13:13and let's see what happens here.

00:13:15Exodus 12 is all about the Passover.

00:13:17Now we don't celebrate the Passover.

00:13:19This is a Jewish holiday.

00:13:21Jesus is our Passover.

00:13:23But during this time

00:13:24when Jesus is being crucified,

00:13:25it is the week of the Passover.

00:13:28The tenth month

00:13:29is when they look for,

00:13:31they select the lamb.

00:13:33Let's look at that

00:13:33in Exodus 12 verse 1.

00:13:35I've showed you this before.

00:13:36I did the whole timing

00:13:37of the crucifixion last year

00:13:40and did this.

00:13:42But look at verse 12,

00:13:4412 verse 1.

00:13:46And the Lord spake unto Moses

00:13:47and Aaron in the land of Egypt,

00:13:49saying,

00:13:50This month shall be unto you

00:13:51the beginning of months.

00:13:53It shall be the first month

00:13:55of the year to you.

00:13:56Speak to you and to

00:13:57all the congregation of Israel,

00:13:59saying,

00:14:00In the tenth day of this month

00:14:03they shall take to them

00:14:04every man a lamb

00:14:06according to the house

00:14:07of their fathers,

00:14:08a lamb for an house.

00:14:09And if the household

00:14:10be too little for the lamb,

00:14:12let him and his neighbor

00:14:13next unto his house

00:14:15take it according

00:14:15to the number of the souls.

00:14:17Every man according

00:14:17to his eating

00:14:18shall make your count

00:14:20for the lamb.

00:14:21Your lamb shall be

00:14:22without blemish,

00:14:23a male the first year.

00:14:24It shall be,

00:14:25ye shall take it out

00:14:27from the sheep

00:14:27and from the goats

00:14:28and ye shall keep it

00:14:30until the fourteenth day

00:14:32of the same month.

00:14:33And the whole assembly

00:14:34of the congregation

00:14:35of Israel shall kill it

00:14:36in the evening.

00:14:38So we see several things.

00:14:40Tenth day of the month,

00:14:41you're supposed to find

00:14:42that lamb

00:14:43and present it

00:14:45unto your family members

00:14:46and say,

00:14:47This is the lamb I chose.

00:14:48It has no blemishes,

00:14:50it has no broken bones,

00:14:51it has no problems.

00:14:52It is the lamb

00:14:54that we would choose.

00:14:55And then they keep it

00:14:56separated

00:14:57for four days

00:14:59until

00:14:59it's killed

00:15:01on the fourteenth day

00:15:02in the evening.

00:15:05So that's what,

00:15:07this is the presentation

00:15:08of the lamb.

00:15:09When they're being

00:15:10presenting

00:15:10with the Lord Jesus Christ,

00:15:12this is the lamb

00:15:13and they're singing what?

00:15:15Hosanna!

00:15:16Hosanna to the king.

00:15:18The next thing

00:15:19is the Lord's Supper

00:15:20going to Matthew 26.

00:15:21We see several

00:15:28different accounts

00:15:29and all of them

00:15:30are the same,

00:15:31but again,

00:15:32different accounts,

00:15:34different information

00:15:36because

00:15:37the Bible

00:15:39is 100% man

00:15:41and 100% God.

00:15:43We saw in the book of John

00:15:44where

00:15:45you see

00:15:47John's

00:15:49personality

00:15:51coming out

00:15:52where he's

00:15:53racing

00:15:53Peter to the grave

00:15:57and he clearly

00:15:57tells him that

00:15:58he's a faster runner.

00:15:59You don't see that

00:16:00in Matthew, Mark, or Luke,

00:16:01but John tells us that

00:16:02and it's true

00:16:03because of the Holy Spirit.

00:16:05Matthew 26

00:16:06verse 20

00:16:07Now when evening

00:16:11was come

00:16:13he sat down

00:16:14with the twelve

00:16:14and as they did eat

00:16:16he said

00:16:17Verily I say unto you

00:16:18that one of you

00:16:19shall betray me

00:16:20and they were

00:16:21exceeding sorrowful

00:16:22and began

00:16:23every one of them

00:16:24to say unto him

00:16:26Lord is it I?

00:16:28And he answered

00:16:28and said

00:16:29He that dibbeth his hand

00:16:30with me

00:16:31in the dish

00:16:32the same shall betray me

00:16:34the Son of Man

00:16:35goeth that it is written

00:16:36of him

00:16:37but woe

00:16:38unto that man

00:16:39by whom the Son of Man

00:16:40is betrayed

00:16:41it had been good

00:16:43for that man

00:16:43if he had not been born.

00:16:45Then Judas

00:16:46which betrayed him

00:16:47answered and said

00:16:49Master is it I?

00:16:50He said to him

00:16:51Thou hast said

00:16:52and as they were eating

00:16:54Jesus took bread

00:16:55and blessed it

00:16:56and break it

00:16:56and gave it to the disciples

00:16:57and said

00:16:58take

00:16:58eat this

00:16:59this is my body

00:17:00and he took the cup

00:17:01and gave thanks

00:17:02and gave it to them

00:17:03saying

00:17:03drink all of it

00:17:04for this is my blood

00:17:06of the New Testament

00:17:07which is shed for many

00:17:08of the remissions of sin

00:17:09but I say unto you

00:17:10I will not drink

00:17:11henceforth

00:17:12of the fruit

00:17:13of this vine

00:17:14until the day

00:17:15when I drink it

00:17:16new with you

00:17:17in my Father's kingdom

00:17:18when they had sung hymns

00:17:20they went out

00:17:21into the Mount of Olives

00:17:21so that's the next thing

00:17:23is the Lord's Supper

00:17:24number five

00:17:26is the Lord's Prayer

00:17:27in the Garden

00:17:28the Lord's Prayer

00:17:30in the Garden

00:17:30so the next thing

00:17:31in the timeline

00:17:32is the Lord's Prayer

00:17:33so

00:17:33we talked about

00:17:35in John 17

00:17:36where Jesus is praying

00:17:39to God the Father

00:17:40the only place

00:17:41that you'll find

00:17:42this prayer

00:17:43is in John

00:17:45where he's actually

00:17:46praying to God the Father

00:17:48he's thanking him

00:17:49for the ministry

00:17:50he gave him

00:17:51thanking him

00:17:51for the people

00:17:52that he gave him

00:17:53that we're going

00:17:55to believe

00:17:56but look at

00:17:57go down to verse 36

00:17:58in Matthew 26

00:17:59we've already read

00:18:00I'm not going to read

00:18:01all 26 verses

00:18:02of John 17

00:18:04but it gives you

00:18:05an idea of what

00:18:06he actually prayed

00:18:07to God the Father

00:18:08and I believe that

00:18:09maybe John

00:18:10got an opportunity

00:18:11to be close to Jesus

00:18:12and hear exactly

00:18:13what he said

00:18:14because again

00:18:14Matthew, Mark and Luke

00:18:15they do not record that

00:18:16they record that

00:18:18Jesus is in the Garden

00:18:19of Gethsemane praying

00:18:20but not what he says

00:18:21Matthew 26 verse 36

00:18:23then cometh Jesus

00:18:25with them

00:18:26unto a place

00:18:26called Gethsemane

00:18:27and saith unto the disciples

00:18:29sit ye here

00:18:30while I go

00:18:31and pray yonder

00:18:32and he took with him

00:18:34Peter

00:18:34and the two sons

00:18:35of Zebedee

00:18:36which is James and John

00:18:37and began to be

00:18:38sorrowful

00:18:39and very heavy

00:18:40then saith unto them

00:18:41my soul is exceeding

00:18:44sorrowful

00:18:44even unto death

00:18:45tarry ye here

00:18:47and watch with me

00:18:48and he went a little further

00:18:49and fell on his face

00:18:50and prayed

00:18:50saying

00:18:51oh my father

00:18:52if it be possible

00:18:53let this cup

00:18:55pass from me

00:18:56nevertheless

00:18:57not as I will

00:18:59but as thou wilt

00:19:00so he's praying

00:19:01to God the Father

00:19:02saying look

00:19:02if there's another way

00:19:03that I don't have

00:19:04to do this

00:19:05this shows the

00:19:06the human aspect

00:19:07of Jesus Christ

00:19:09even though he's God

00:19:10and we think

00:19:11okay he's God

00:19:11in the flesh

00:19:12he died for our sins

00:19:13he died on the cross

00:19:14he's still a human being

00:19:16we need to understand that

00:19:17this is the human aspect

00:19:18that sometimes

00:19:19we don't want to do

00:19:20what is right

00:19:21and Jesus

00:19:22is asking

00:19:23God the Father

00:19:24if there's any way

00:19:25please

00:19:25take this away from me

00:19:27that I can do something else

00:19:28and he cometh unto the disciples

00:19:30and findeth them asleep

00:19:31and saith unto Peter

00:19:33what could you

00:19:34what

00:19:35could you not watch with me

00:19:36one hour

00:19:37watch and pray

00:19:38that you enter not

00:19:39into temptation

00:19:40the spirit indeed is willing

00:19:42but the flesh is weak

00:19:43he went away again

00:19:45the second time

00:19:45and prayed

00:19:46saying

00:19:46oh my father

00:19:47if this cup

00:19:49may not pass away from me

00:19:51except I drink it

00:19:52thy will be done

00:19:54and he came

00:19:55and found them asleep again

00:19:56for their eyes were heavy

00:19:58and he left them

00:19:59and went away again

00:20:00and prayed the third time

00:20:01saying the same words

00:20:02then come to the disciples

00:20:04and saith

00:20:04sleep on now

00:20:05and take your rest

00:20:07behold

00:20:07the hour is at hand

00:20:09the son of man

00:20:10is betrayed

00:20:11into the hands of sinners

00:20:12rise

00:20:13let us be going

00:20:14behold

00:20:14he is at hand

00:20:16that does betray me

00:20:17so what's interesting

00:20:18is he comes to them

00:20:19several times

00:20:20and says

00:20:20hey wake up

00:20:21wake up

00:20:22and then later

00:20:24he's saying

00:20:24pray

00:20:25that

00:20:25into temptation

00:20:27that the spirit

00:20:27is indeed

00:20:28willing

00:20:28but the flesh

00:20:29is weak

00:20:29he's telling them

00:20:30to pray

00:20:31that they

00:20:32are strengthened

00:20:33because he knows

00:20:35what's going to happen

00:20:36that when they come

00:20:37to rest

00:20:37that they're going

00:20:38to be by themselves

00:20:39and that they're going

00:20:39to be

00:20:40possibly taken as well

00:20:42he didn't know

00:20:43but he's telling them

00:20:44and then in verse 45

00:20:45he says

00:20:46sleep on now

00:20:47rest

00:20:48because

00:20:48you don't need

00:20:50to worry anymore

00:20:51because

00:20:52they're here

00:20:52so that's what happens

00:20:54it's the Lord's prayer

00:20:56in the garden

00:20:57of Gethsemane

00:20:58when he's praying

00:21:00to God the Father

00:21:01and we know

00:21:02that

00:21:46when you read in Matthew

00:21:49they don't talk about

00:21:56that's why there's

00:21:57four counts

00:21:58it gives us more information

00:21:59so he kissed him

00:22:21which were with Jesus

00:22:22stretched out his hand

00:22:25and struck a servant

00:22:26of the high priest

00:22:27and smote off his ear

00:22:29now in the book of John

00:22:30we see that it tells us

00:22:32his name is Malchus

00:22:33some of the other accounts

00:22:36they don't talk about

00:22:37cutting his ear off

00:22:38and

00:22:39so different accounts

00:22:42all of them are the same

00:22:43but more information

00:22:45than some

00:22:45and more information

00:22:46than others

00:22:46then said Jesus

00:23:49that bad things

00:23:50happen at night

00:23:50sometimes

00:23:51the next thing

00:23:52number seven

00:23:53is Jesus' trial

00:23:54go to Mark 14

00:23:56Mark chapter 14

00:23:58again

00:24:00there's four accounts

00:24:01of the death

00:24:02burial

00:24:02and resurrection

00:24:03that's what God

00:24:04puts emphasis on

00:24:05so this is Jesus' trial

00:24:07after they arrest him

00:24:08they put him on

00:24:09a mock trial

00:24:10they have a bunch

00:24:11of false witnesses

00:24:12that come up there

00:24:13and try to say

00:24:14all this stuff

00:24:15and that's what we see

00:24:16here in Mark 14

00:24:17verse 53

00:24:18and they led Jesus away

00:24:22to the high priest

00:24:23and with him

00:24:23were assembled

00:24:24all the chief priests

00:24:25and the elders

00:24:27and the scribes

00:24:29and Peter followed him

00:24:31afar off

00:24:31even into the palace

00:24:32of the high priest

00:24:33and he sat with the servants

00:24:34and warmed himself

00:24:35at the fire

00:24:36and the chief priest

00:24:37and all the council

00:24:38sought for witness

00:24:40against Jesus

00:24:40to put him to death

00:24:42and found none

00:24:43so they're trying to find

00:24:45some witness

00:24:45to come up

00:24:46and say

00:24:46this is the reason

00:24:47we should put him

00:24:48to death

00:24:48and they couldn't

00:24:49find any

00:24:50for many bear false witness

00:24:52against him

00:24:53but the witness

00:24:54agreed not together

00:24:55so some people

00:24:57would come up

00:24:57and say

00:24:57well Jesus said this

00:24:58and Jesus said that

00:24:59but none of them

00:25:00had a witness together

00:25:02what does the Old Testament

00:25:03says

00:25:03there has to be witnesses

00:25:05of two or three

00:25:07two or more

00:25:08for someone to be put

00:25:09to death

00:25:10it's not just good enough

00:25:11to say

00:25:11well I saw him do this

00:25:13there's got to be two

00:25:13well the Bible clearly

00:25:15says that there was not

00:25:16enough

00:25:16for them

00:25:18to have that

00:25:19agreed witnesses

00:25:20to say

00:25:21yes

00:25:21the two of us

00:25:22saw this

00:25:22and there rose

00:25:25certain

00:25:25and bear false witness

00:25:27against him

00:25:27saying

00:25:28we heard him say

00:25:30I will destroy this

00:25:31temple that is made

00:25:32with hands

00:25:32and in three days

00:25:33I will build another

00:25:35made without hands

00:25:37well he didn't really

00:25:38say that

00:25:39he's talking about

00:25:39his body

00:25:40he's not talking

00:25:41about the temple

00:25:42they think he's acting

00:25:43like some kind of

00:25:44terrorist

00:25:44and he's going to

00:25:45blow up the temple

00:25:45and then build another

00:25:47one

00:25:47folks that's just weird

00:25:48that's just goofy

00:25:49for people to think

00:25:50that

00:25:50but he's talking

00:25:51about the temple

00:25:51there's no need

00:25:52for them to be

00:25:53in the temple

00:25:53that

00:25:54when he dies

00:25:56on the cross

00:25:56that you know

00:25:57in 70

00:25:58in 78D

00:25:59the whole temple

00:26:00is going to be

00:26:00destroyed anyway

00:26:01but he's talking

00:26:02about his body

00:26:02being risen

00:26:03from the grave

00:26:07are trying to make

00:26:08something out

00:26:09make him out

00:26:09to be a terrorist

00:26:10when we heard him

00:26:11say

00:26:11but neither

00:26:12did so

00:26:13did their witnesses

00:26:14agree together

00:26:15so they could

00:26:15still can agree

00:26:16on that

00:26:17and he clearly

00:26:17said that

00:26:18it's in the Bible

00:26:21stood up

00:26:21in the midst

00:26:22and asked Jesus

00:26:24what is it

00:26:26witnesses

00:26:29his peace

00:26:35so we know the word

00:26:36Christ means what

00:26:37the Messiah

00:26:38he's asking him

00:26:39are you the Christ

00:26:49sitting on the right

00:26:50hand of power

00:26:51and coming

00:26:52in the clouds

00:27:34to be the son of God

00:27:35we saw that

00:27:55and they that had

00:27:57laid hold on Jesus

00:27:59led him away

00:27:59to Caiaphas

00:28:00the high priest

00:28:01where the scribes

00:28:02and the soldiers

00:28:03or the elders

00:28:04were assembled

00:28:04but Peter followed him

00:28:06far off

00:28:06into the high priest's

00:28:07palace

00:28:08and went in

00:28:09and sat with the servants

00:28:10to see the end

00:29:28some of the worst

00:29:29thing you can do

00:29:30to somebody

00:29:30is spit in their face

00:29:31nowhere in the Bible

00:29:32does it say

00:29:33if somebody says

00:29:34they're son of God

00:29:35or say they're God

00:29:36or taking away you

00:29:37from God

00:29:38that you're supposed

00:29:38to spit in their face

00:29:40and punch them

00:29:41what are they supposed

00:29:41to do

00:29:42stone them to death

00:29:43so they're violating

00:29:46and then they're

00:29:46hitting them

00:29:46with the palms

00:29:47and hands

00:29:47making fun of Jesus

00:29:49saying hey

00:29:49prophesy on us

00:29:50and tell us

00:29:51who hit you

00:29:52just making fun

00:29:53of him

00:29:54stay in Matthew

00:29:56the next thing

00:29:57is the Jews

00:29:58delivered Jesus

00:29:59to the Romans

00:29:59so after they

00:30:00realized

00:30:01they can't

00:30:02they can't do

00:30:03anything

00:30:03they're under

00:30:04the Roman rule

00:30:04they can't go out

00:30:06there and stone

00:30:06them to death

00:30:07like the Old Testament

00:30:08says

00:30:08they can't do

00:30:09anything like that

00:30:10they have to have

00:30:11the Romans

00:30:11do their dirty work

00:30:39which had betrayed him

00:30:42repented himself

00:31:12and they took counsel

00:31:13and bought with them

00:31:13the potter field

00:31:14to bury strangers in

00:31:16wherefore that field

00:31:18is called

00:31:18the field of blood

00:31:20unto this day

00:31:22so

00:31:23several things

00:31:24we see by this

00:31:25number one

00:31:26is that Judas Iscariot

00:31:28is not saved

00:31:29he's not saved

00:31:31he had the Satan

00:31:32inside of him

00:31:33you cannot have

00:31:33you cannot be possessed

00:31:34by a demon

00:31:35or by the devil

00:31:37if you've got

00:31:38the Holy Spirit

00:31:38two people

00:31:39two

00:31:39two spirits

00:31:41can't occupy

00:31:42the same space

00:31:43so we know

00:31:44that he's

00:31:45he's possessed

00:31:46by demons

00:31:46but then we see

00:31:47people in the Bible

00:31:48like Mary Magdalene

00:31:49she was possessed

00:31:50by seven demons

00:31:51but the Bible

00:31:52clearly says

00:31:53that Judas Iscariot

00:31:55never believed

00:31:56he never did

00:31:57he never believed

00:31:58that Jesus

00:31:58was who he said

00:32:00he was

00:32:00he was just

00:32:01holding the bag

00:32:02and doing these things

00:32:03the other thing

00:32:03we see

00:32:04is that

00:32:05why would Jesus

00:32:06choose

00:32:07Judas Iscariot

00:32:08it's a good example

00:32:10of

00:32:10not that

00:32:11God chooses

00:32:12people

00:32:13to

00:32:14to be saved

00:32:16but he chooses

00:32:16people to do

00:32:17different things

00:32:18Judas Iscariot

00:32:19clearly not saved

00:32:21so why did

00:32:21Jesus do that

00:32:22well

00:32:23so the prophecy

00:32:23could be said

00:32:24that people

00:32:25among him

00:32:25could betray him

00:32:27that's the only reason

00:32:28the next thing we see

00:32:30is that he repented himself

00:32:31he changed his mind

00:32:33he said

00:32:33I did wrong

00:32:34he gives back the money

00:32:35and then what happens

00:32:37he hangs himself

00:32:38he's in hell today

00:32:40because repenting

00:32:42of your sins

00:32:42and all that stuff

00:32:44is just

00:32:44no good

00:32:45as far as salvation

00:32:46he was unsaved

00:32:47you know

00:32:48this is a good example

00:32:49of somebody

00:32:50repenting of their sins

00:32:51to be

00:32:52to fix things

00:32:54and he still died

00:32:55and went to hell

00:32:56the other thing is

00:32:56they did not take the money

00:32:58because that was

00:32:59blood money

00:33:00they used it

00:33:01to make a potter field

00:33:02to bury

00:33:04strangers

00:33:05in that

00:33:06the next thing is

00:33:08Pilate questions

00:33:09Jesus

00:33:10go to John 18

00:33:11this is the best account

00:33:13of this situation

00:33:14most of the rest

00:33:15is going to be

00:33:16in John

00:33:16look at John 18

00:33:20so after this

00:33:21he takes

00:33:33they're basically

00:33:34they're prisoners

00:33:35so to speak

00:33:35the Romans

00:33:36are over the Jews

00:33:41for it

00:33:41because they did not

00:33:42believe the same things

00:33:43as the Jews did

00:33:44they had their own

00:33:45kind of religion

00:33:46look at John 18

00:33:52then led Jesus

00:33:53from Caiaphas

00:33:54into the hall

00:33:55of judgment

00:33:55and it was early

00:33:57and they themselves

00:33:58went not into

00:33:59the judgment hall

00:34:00lest they should

00:34:01be defiled

00:34:02but they might

00:34:03eat the Passover

00:34:04so they did not

00:34:05want to go in there

00:34:06because this is

00:34:07the day of the Passover

00:34:08you were going to

00:34:10find out later

00:34:11that that evening

00:34:12they had to kill

00:34:12the Passover

00:34:13at evening

00:34:14they did not

00:34:15want to defile

00:34:16themselves

00:34:17I guess it was

00:34:18alright for them

00:34:19to defile themselves

00:34:39we wouldn't have

00:34:40if he wasn't

00:34:40a bad guy

00:34:42then said Pilate

00:34:43and them

00:34:43take ye him

00:34:44and judge him

00:34:45according to

00:34:45your law

00:34:46the Jews said

00:34:48therefore unto him

00:34:49it is not lawful

00:34:50us to put any man

00:34:52to death

00:34:52that the saying

00:34:54of Jesus

00:34:54might be fulfilled

00:34:55that which he

00:34:56spake signified

00:34:57what death

00:34:58he should die

00:34:58so if it was

00:35:00lawful for them

00:35:01to do that

00:35:01they would have

00:35:01stoned him

00:36:45again unto the Jews

00:36:47and said unto them

00:36:47I find it no fault at all

00:36:49but ye have a custom

00:36:51that I should release unto you

00:36:53one at the Passover

00:36:55were ye therefore

00:36:56that I release unto you

00:36:58the king of the Jews

00:36:59then cried they all again

00:37:00saying

00:37:01no not this man

00:37:02but Barabbas

00:37:03but Barabbas

00:37:05was a robber

00:37:06so they're saying

00:37:07look you got a custom

00:37:08to release one of them

00:37:10so he's saying

00:37:11you know

00:37:11the high priest

00:37:12is saying

00:37:12they got a custom

00:37:13they got to kill somebody

00:37:14for the whole country

00:37:16and now he's saying

00:37:18no you got a custom

00:37:19to release one of them

00:37:20the next thing is

00:37:22Pilate scourges Jesus

00:37:24so he says

00:37:25hey

00:37:25I don't have anything

00:37:26against this man

00:37:27I'm going to release him

00:37:29I have no fault in him

00:37:31look at John 19

00:37:32so after he does that

00:37:34what does he do

00:37:35they say

00:37:35release Barabbas

00:37:36then Pilate therefore

00:37:37took Jesus

00:37:38and scourged him

00:37:39so if he has no fault in him

00:37:43why is he whipping him

00:37:44I don't know

00:37:46and the soldiers

00:37:48plaited a crown of thorns

00:37:49and put it on his head

00:37:50and they put him

00:37:51a purple robe

00:37:52they're mocking him

00:37:54they're making a crown of thorns

00:37:55because why

00:37:56a king wears a crown

00:37:58they take these thorns

00:37:59and they make it into a crown

00:38:00and put it on his head

00:38:01to make his head bleed

00:38:02they're putting a purple robe on him
