00:00All right, so tonight we're wrapping up the book of John.
00:04We're in John 21.
00:05Probably one of my favorite chapters in the book of John, we start in verse 1, after these
00:13things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias and on the wise showed
00:21he himself.
00:23So if you'll look at verse 14 in chapter 21, this is now the third time that Jesus showed
00:29himself to his disciples after that he was risen from the dead.
00:35So three times he shows himself to disciples.
00:38Why?
00:39Well, you have three days that he, before he rose again, maybe that's a significance.
00:47I don't know.
00:48Maybe to prove to them that it wasn't a dream, that it was a physical bodily resurrection
00:54and that he was there and to tell them the things.
00:58So this is what happens in verse two.
01:01They were together, Simon Peter and Thomas called Didymus and Nathanael of Cana and Galilee
01:08and the sons of Zebedee and two others of his disciples.
01:12So the sons of Zebedee are James and John.
01:20Look at verse three.
01:21Simon Peter says unto them, I go a fishing.
01:24They say unto him, we also go with thee.
01:27They went forth and entered into a ship immediately and that night they caught nothing.
01:33Keep your finger there and go to Mark one, Mark chapter one.
01:42Mark chapter one, look at verse 16 in Mark one.
01:50Now as they walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, this is Jesus, and Andrew, his
01:57brother, casting a net into the sea for they were fishers.
02:00And Jesus said unto them, come ye after me and I will make you to become fishers of men.
02:07And straightway they forsook their nets and followed him.
02:10We had gone a little further thence.
02:12He saw James, the son of Zebedee and John, his brother, who also were in the ship, meaning
02:18their nets.
02:19And straightway he called them and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the
02:23hired servants and went after him.
02:27So at the beginning of Jesus' ministry, we see him selecting people, choosing people.
02:34And he chose these men who were fishermen to be fishers of men.
02:43Go back to John, go to John 20, verse 21.
02:52Look at John 20, verse 21.
02:56Then said Jesus to them again, peace be unto you as my father has sent me, so I send you.
03:02And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said unto them, receive ye the Holy
03:05Ghost, whosoever sends you remit, they are remitted, and to them, and whosoever sends
03:10you retain, they are retained.
03:13So Peter was a man that had great influence.
03:17And we see right before Jesus is crucified, the boldness he has and says, I will never
03:23leave you, Jesus.
03:24I will never fall down.
03:27I will always be on your side.
03:28When he says, hey, I'm going to be taking a man, I'm going to be crucified, he says,
03:31I'm not going to let that happen.
03:33And then we see right hours later, what does he do?
03:36Peter denies Jesus.
03:37Oh, I don't know this man.
03:40I don't know who he is.
03:41I've never seen him before.
03:42I don't know.
03:43I'm not a follower of him.
03:45But not only does he have those flaws of where he's not a strong person in adversity, he
03:52is a great influencer.
03:54Constantly, you see throughout the Gospels where he's influencing people to do things.
03:59And Jesus saw that.
04:01And this chapter is a good example of we all have flaws and Jesus can see through them
04:08to make us a great Christian.
04:11Now we should try to overcome that.
04:12And I think later on, Peter in his life realized that he had to be that stand up guy.
04:20But it's a good example, this chapter of people who just have many flaws, but God uses them.
04:27And Peter's one of them.
04:29There's other disciples.
04:30But he's a great influencers.
04:31Go back to John 21.
04:34Jesus clearly told him and you can read throughout all the Gospels where he goes to all these
04:37guys and says, hey, drop your nets.
04:40Come with me.
04:41Be a fisherman.
04:42Men, I don't want you to be a fisherman anymore.
04:46But Peter, what does he do?
04:47He influences them and says, hey, I go fishing.
04:50They say, we're going too.
04:53Now what should they should be doing?
04:54They should be going out to what God, what Jesus told them to do, which is to go out
04:59and preach the Gospel to all nations.
05:03But they do not.
05:04Look at verse four.
05:06But when the morning was come, so they're fishing at night, but when the morning was
05:11come, was now come, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
05:18So they see a guy, but they don't know that he's Jesus.
05:21Then Jesus says unto them, children, have ye any meat?
05:25Now the word meat just means food.
05:28We would say meat.
05:29We would say, you know, steak or hamburger or fish or whatever.
05:34But he's talking about any food when they're talking about flesh to eat.
05:40They're talking about what we would call meat, just so you understand.
05:43They answered him no.
05:44And he said unto them, cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find.
05:50They cast therefore, and now they were able to not to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
05:56Therefore the disciple whom Jesus loved said unto Peter, it is the Lord.
06:02Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him,
06:08for he was naked, and he cast himself into the sea.
06:12Now when we read the Bible, sometimes we see words and they change meaning.
06:19So the word naked here does not mean what we think it is.
06:24Nobody is going to sit there naked as we would think with completely no clothes fishing with
06:29other men.
06:30That just does not happen.
06:31That's weird.
06:32Peter wouldn't be doing that.
06:34So what does that mean, naked?
06:37Well, what we think in our mind is not what it is.
06:41So keep your finger there and I want you to go to Exodus 28, because a lot of people,
06:47you know, times change and people say, oh, things are different now.
06:51Well, they're not in God's eyes.
06:54And this may make you mad.
06:55I don't care.
06:56I'm just showing you what the Bible says.
06:58Look at Exodus 28, 39, all the way back in the Old Testament.
07:05And thou shalt embroider the coat of fine linen, thou shalt make the mitre of fine linen,
07:11and thou shalt make the girdle of needlework.
07:14So this is how Aaron and his sons, the priests, what they're supposed to wear when they go
07:20into the temple to do their ministration.
07:25And for Aaron's son, thou shalt make coats, and thou shalt make for them girdles and bonnets,
07:30shall thou make for them for glory and for beauty.
07:34So when we think of a girdle, you know, a long time ago, women used to wear a girdle
07:38and it was something to keep their body together so they would have a better figure.
07:45All it is, is a rope or some kind of belt to gird yourself, to close up your garment.
07:53Basically like women used, but when you think of the word girdle, you think of what women
07:57used in the 40s and 50s, I don't know.
08:02But this is just, what they made was a belt or something to close their clothes up, sometimes
08:07as a rope.
08:10And thou shalt put them on Aaron, on thy brother and sons with him, and shalt anoint
08:17them and consecrate them and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's
08:21office.
08:22So this is the clothes they're supposed to wear in the priest's office.
08:24Look at verse 42.
08:26And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness from the loins even
08:34unto the thighs that they shall reach.
08:38They shall be upon Aaron and upon his sons, and when they come into the tabernacle of
08:42the congregation, and when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place,
08:47that they bear not unequity and die, it shall be a statute forever unto him and his seed
08:53after him.
08:56So the Bible is describing what nakedness is.
08:59What is it?
09:00Well, if your thighs are not covered, you're naked.
09:05So if you're wearing short shorts or whatever, or anybody who goes to the beach and they're
09:11wearing, I don't care if it's a one piece or a two piece, if your thighs are uncovered,
09:15you are naked in God's eyes.
09:17And this is a good example of breeches, or what some people used to call, you know my
09:22grandparents used to call them long breeches, short breeches.
09:26This is where this word comes from.
09:30It's something like pants that have two legs, and they're called breeches or breeches.
09:38And that's what it is.
09:39People wore pants all the way back from the beginning.
09:42They just, this idea of Jesus and the disciples wearing dresses and riding and doing work
09:47just is not, it's silly.
09:50That's a toga.
09:51They didn't wear a toga.
09:52Now that might irritate you about the covering your thighs, but that's what I believe.
09:58You see that Jesus that says he was naked before his mother and the other disciples
10:02when he was on the cross?
10:03He's not sitting there naked, folks.
10:05He's not sitting there with no clothes completely on.
10:08He probably had on like a loin garment, what we would call underpants or underwear, and
10:14then nothing else.
10:16But that's what we're talking about.
10:18When Peter is there at night, he's probably in some kind of clothes that we would call
10:24like a bathing suit, like shorts or something, or his underpants.
10:28And he was ashamed that Jesus saw him, so he jumped in the water and then he put on
10:31his coat.
10:33Very simple.
10:35Verse 8.
10:36And the other disciples came in a little ship, for they were not far from land, but as it
10:40were two hundred cubits dragging the nets with fishes.
10:43So a cubit, if you don't remember, is the length from a person's pink, I'm sorry, the
10:50middle finger to the end of their elbow.
10:52They didn't have measuring sticks, so they had to use body parts.
10:55They used a hand breadth, which means the width of their hand, you know, obviously that's
11:00not the same because everybody's hands are different, everybody's arms are different,
11:05but that's just what they did.
11:08So 18 inches is about what it is, if you measure the average man from the tip of his finger
11:16to the end of his elbow is about 18 inches, a foot and a half.
11:21And that's what a cubit is.
11:24So there's 200 cubits.
11:30So if you take, I'll do the math for you, if you take 200 and you multiply it times
11:3418, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
11:54So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
12:01So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
12:08So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
12:15So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches.
12:21So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
12:27So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
12:33So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
12:39So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
12:45So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.

12:57So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
13:03So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
13:09So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
13:15So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
13:21So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
13:27So if you take 200 and you multiply it times 18, you get 28,000 inches, or 66.667 feet.
