In order for Trinidad and Tobago to have a better society we need to show each other more of God's love. This from Father Peter St. Hillaire as he spoke with TV6'S Elizabeth Williams following the Good Friday stages of the cross in Tobago. More in this report.

00:00Father, what do you want the nation to take away this Easter?
00:05This Easter, I want them to take away, you know, all the crime and all the hostility,
00:11all the backbiting, to realize what Jesus has done for us.
00:14He did it for every single one of us.
00:16Even in the face of betrayal and denial, Jesus still loves.
00:20So I think we need to take away the love that Christ has for us,
00:24that we need to reflect that love to all, and I think we'll have a better society.
00:28Father Saint-Hilaire said, with mere days before the April 28th general elections,
00:35he is calling for citizens to maintain love and unity.
00:39Well, that is very challenging, you know, because everybody has their ideas.
00:44But for me, again, I will say, maintain the love and the unity,
00:49because whoever wins the election, we still have to live together.
00:52So we need to have that love and unity among us.
00:55He has this message to all politicians.
00:59God has appointed you in this position.
01:02Put God first and do what you have to do for the good of the country.
01:06And in addressing the crime situation, he said, we must start at the home.
01:12We keep saying it over and over,
01:13and I'm seeing where a lot of young people don't have that guidance at home.
01:18So we, the church now here in Tobago, trying to see what we can do to help,
01:23especially with young men, because we've realized even from the primary schools,
01:28the violence has taken place in primary schools.
01:31So for me, I start to go to the Scarborough RSC once a week,
01:36just to meet especially those who seem to be the troublemakers.
01:39Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
