00:0075-year-old Trinidadian Rubchand Simbu has been arrested in the United States for murder.
00:06The Trinidadian has been charged with murdering 34-year-old Salisha Ali,
00:10a mother of three, who had traveled to the United States in search of a better life.
00:15Detectives believe that Simbu dismembered the woman's body and scattered it in bushy areas sometime last year.
00:22Her torso was discovered inside a marshy area of Idlewild Park, not far from JFK Airport in September.
00:28On March 5th, the woman's head was discovered by sanitation workers inside the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.
00:35And following an extensive search, other body parts were found, police said.
00:40Ali was identified by her tattoos, three names and a flower.
00:43And DNA testing on the torso confirmed her identity.
00:47The elderly man, who had been a suspect, was detained on Wednesday and was charged with murder,
00:52obstructing governmental administration and two counts of tampering with physical evidence.
00:58Ali was reported missing by her relatives in Trinidad after she stopped answering their calls.
01:03She was last seen in a video call with relatives in July.
01:07The relative told the Express that while numerous attempts were made to reach Ali, none were successful.
01:13The relative said she contacted the Trinidad and Tobago Consular's office in New York and a missing report was lodged.
01:19The Express was told that Ali had met the 75-year-old man in Trinidad and traveled to the U
01:25.S. to be with him.
01:28Well, ABC News spoke to the neighbor of the victim.
01:33For months, neighbors have been haunted by what happened to the young woman who lived in this house with her
01:40husband.
01:40Anything that you noticed that was sort of alarming about their relationship?
01:44No, not really.
01:46They, you know, they would sit outside on the porch in the summertime.
01:49Sometimes we see them having a beer and, like, just hanging out to play music.
01:53But otherwise, in that day, it seems normal to me.
01:57What happened to 34-year-old Salisha Ali is anything but normal.
02:01Her head was discovered in the Jamaica Wildlife Refuge in Broad Channel last Thursday.
02:08The rest of her body stuffed in a garbage bag found by sanitation workers in another part of Queens back
02:14in September.
02:16Hasina had no idea she was living across the street from a killer, but she started to wonder.
02:21When we gather a little bit of information of what happened, we were like, okay, this guy is scary.
02:27But then for a while, everything went silence, and we saw him living his life as normal, so we just
02:35thought that maybe he wasn't found guilty.
02:3675-year-old Rupshan Simbu went on living his life as usual until today, when he was arrested and charged
02:44with the murder of his wife.
02:46Ali met him in Trinidad in 2023.
02:48She moved to Queens with him a year later to get married.
02:52Police sources say the 75-year-old was the 34-year-old's immigration sponsor.
02:58He was the one who reported her missing in July.
03:01Detectives now believe to throw them off.
03:03As me knowing him, he's a quiet man. Quiet man.
03:07Relatives of the husband now charged with murder showed up to the house tonight.
03:11They did not want to offer a comment, but one of them did say they have just as many questions
03:16as we do.
03:18Hasina feels somewhat relieved tonight.
03:21Well, yes, that he's not just, you know, I have a young daughter and, you know, trying to raise a
03:27family here,
03:28and you don't want to live across from someone as dangerous as him.
03:32Exactly how Miss Ali was killed is still under investigation.
