Fifty families now have the keys to brand new starter homes, as part of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development's Housing and Village Improvement Programme.

00:00In his address at a key distribution ceremony at Bonaire Gardens Community Centre, Minister
00:05in the Ministry of Housing, Adrian Lyons, noted that since the program's inception
00:10in 2017, over 900 families have received keys to their homes, adding today's unit cost
00:17the government a little over $8 million.
00:20The government has invested approximately $8,250,000 in constructing these 50 homes,
00:29which are located in communities located in Arema, Tegel Martin, Sawa, Aruka, St. Augustine,
00:37Wallerfield, Sandy Grande and Karani, thereby ensuring that the most vulnerable among us
00:44are not left behind.
00:46He also said that the government will be constructing an additional 500 starter homes at a cost
00:51of $150 million.
00:55This means 500 more families will be able to realize improved living standards, better
01:02protection from natural disasters, better access to modern sanitation facilities, better
01:10access to water and electricity, and all of which will be done to the benefit of families
01:18and improve their living conditions.
01:22Mr Lyons also announced that in the coming weeks, the government will distribute deeds
01:26of lease to beneficiaries of the government-aided self-help housing program.
