00:00Among the areas in Trinidad and Tobago that are to benefit from the revitalization plan, according to the government, is the nation's capital city, Port of Spain.
00:08I am sure that we will be able to compete with those who have gone ahead of us, because we, after all, are from Trinidad, and I'm from Tobago, actually, the convention center.
00:21All right, so these are all the views of what we are talking about.
00:25This was the old PowerGen site. We are looking at some residences there.
00:32The PowerGen power station in Port of Spain was closed and torn down under the former PNM administration.
00:39TV6 News has sought further details from Minister John regarding the revitalization blueprint under the new UNC-led government.
00:46Could you give us a little more about what is the plan for that former power station site in Port of Spain?
00:51Well, we purpose it. We don't have enough people living in the capital city. Nobody lives in Port of Spain.
00:56You have to bring people in Port of Spain, young people, professionals such as yourself, have to feel that Port of Spain is safe.
01:02They could come, they could raise a family inside of Port of Spain, so that's a perfect site to put residences.
01:08Would that be public-private partnership?
01:10Well, the procurement process has commenced, so I prefer to stay away from that. It has commenced, that's what is happening today.
01:17In delivering the future address at the launch of the revitalization plan, the Prime Minister explained that it was about getting more investment,
01:26not just for the capital, but for Trinidad and Tobago in general.
01:29We have preserved systems that were economic ties locally with our private sector and regionally through CARICOM.
01:37But now, the time has come to open our doors internationally, to learn from and partner with countries that have successfully transformed their economies.
01:49For example, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and others.
01:56Many of these nations were, similar in positions like ours, heavily dependent on energy.
02:03Yet they transitioned, they grew, dynamic, diversified economies.
02:08Prime Minister Kamla Pasalba says to ensure that the administration's goals are accomplished, they will revisit the public service manual.
