00:00The Caribbean Broadcasting Union has experienced an upsurge in entries for its annual media awards.
00:06With the CBU Secretariat receiving 551 submissions for 61 categories from 30 organizations
00:16representing 11 countries and territories in the Dutch, English and Spanish Caribbean,
00:22as well as a pan-regional entity.
00:24That's an increase in entries of 13% compared to last year.
00:31With a total of 61 categories, Trinidad and Tobago submitted the third most entries,
00:36Barbados topping the list and Jamaica in second place with 112 nominees.
00:42In third place overall was Trinidad and Tobago.
00:46It delivered the largest number of entrants, six organizations in total,
00:50including two brand new participants in the competition.
00:55Trinidad Newsday and Climate Analytics.
00:58The Express newspaper and CCN TV6, both members of the One Caribbean Media Group,
01:05together contributed the most from that jurisdiction with 39 nominations from print, television and radio services.
01:13The 2025 theme is Caribbean Media and the Orange Economy.
01:19And what exactly is the Orange Economy?
01:22Imagine an economy bursting with color, creativity and endless possibilities.
01:28That's the Orange Economy.
01:30And it's powering nearly 50 billion U.S. dollars into the heart and soul of the Caribbean each year.
01:38So what of Caribbean Media and the Orange Economy?
01:41Public service media is right at the core.
01:44And if it isn't, it should be.
01:47Sewing culture, innovation and economic growth across Barbados and the entire Caribbean.
01:54The CBU Awards taking place in Barbados from August 18th to the 20th will coincide with preparations for CaraFesta 15
02:02and aptly so as the festival promotes the region's rich and vibrant culture.
02:07In the Caribbean, the Orange Economy is our innate genius, our ancestral heritage come alive,
02:15our contemporary expression reimagined always, all transformed into tangible economic value.
