00:00I am really lucky to be alive you know because I I told you I was dressed on
00:06the other side of the road and the truck came down full speed ahead you know and
00:12crashed into the building there and you know I must say I'm grateful to God for
00:18saving us. A close call and major crisis averted that's how residents of Guaracan
00:25Tabakit Road describe an accident involving a 10-wheeler truck just after
00:308 a.m. on Monday. Resident Russell Santana says he had just parked on the
00:36roadway and was getting ready to head to his garden nearby when he witnessed the
00:41crash. I'd now come out put on one side of my boots and then the van man was
00:47coming up and the same time I saw the truck coming down the road full speed
00:53ahead you know but he could not make the corner but thank God maybe he didn't
00:57make the corner because he might have crashed into the van. He might have had
01:02death but he end up crashing into the house there and came down here and
01:09stopped. He says residents rushed to help the driver but had to await emergency
01:14responders to cut into the wreckage before pulling him out. TV6 News was
01:19told the 70 year old Princestown man with over 30 years experience as a truck
01:24driver was then taken to hospital. He had a bruise to his head and his right
01:29foot was broken. At the scene speaking to reporters off-camera the owner of the
01:35truck Adesh Maraj says the driver was already on his second trip for the day
01:40transporting quarry sand. For this trip he loaded the truck in the Guaracan area
01:45and was heading to Newgrant. The truck owner says the vehicle is insured and he
02:10will go through the legal channels and do his best to ensure those impacted are
02:15compensated. When the truck crashed into the front of this home the impact also
02:21broke a wooden utility pole and concrete posts which went crashing into the
02:26neighbor's home causing widespread damage. Homeowner of the first house
02:30Helen Fifield, a CPEP worker estimates her financial loss to be over $100,000.
02:38A walkout area, garage slash garage here. The pool, well that dismantle everything and
02:45right now the hole on top it is shaky everything loose from on top so it is
02:51very dangerous for us. Contractors and truck owners make sure your vehicle is
02:57equipped to be running on this road here because it have villagers, people, taxis
03:04and so on. People would be on the road so you know be a little more careful with
03:09your drivers, the condition of your vehicle and so on.
