00:00Police came down here, police vehicle, two police vehicles actually, and two of them came out fully armed, like three guns on each policeman, one across the chest, one by the waist and so on, and was trying to get a boat to go out in the sea.
00:26And they didn't get through to do that because no fishermen were available to go out at the time. So they asked to get on a jet ski.
00:39Two police officers, one identified as Police Constable Brian Ramratan, left the Pigeon Point Beach on jet skis in what has been described as a police operation. That's when the incident occurred.
00:52Two policemen went onto the jet ski fully armed with life jackets on and all these guns and went out into the sea, but the jet ski was overloaded and it kind of sank down and when they were going out it was wobbling.
01:11However, we noticed one of the policemen fell off into the sea and he was in the water in a distressed way. One boat passed them straight, I don't know if he didn't see them or what, under that distress, and then another boat passed and stopped and assisted the policeman out of the sea.
01:33But he had to get the equipment off of him, all the guns and the bulletproof vests and all that had to be removed.
01:42The police weapons were not recovered and during the incident, PC Ramratan appeared to have lost consciousness.
01:50Those things had to be left in the sea and they left and came in with the boat, left the jet ski outside there. The guy had to go out and collect his jet ski.
02:05When they came in now, they were questioning the guy who brought them in, who assisted to bring them in. They put one of them in the van and they were questioning the other one for a time.
02:21And eventually now the man who fell into the sea, when they brought him in, the policeman that is, he was like semi-conscious.
02:32CPR was later administered. Emergency officials arrived on the scene and assisted.
02:37On Wednesday, officers returned to the area at Pigeon Point Beach where a private diver was asked to assist.
02:45When contacted on the matter, Acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin said he was awaiting facts in the matter.
02:51While Senior Superintendent of Police Earl Eli said an update on the incident would be forthcoming.
