Residents of Tabaquite remain traumatized after armed men shot and killed 21-year-old Matthew Chancellor on the weekend.

One resident, Pastor Dilip Samaroo says it's a dark period in the community.

00:00The gunmen are said to have shot Mathew, who later lost his life as a result of his wounds.
00:06The men then reportedly robbed several people, a shop, and kicked someone's door down, stealing
00:13jewellery and other valuables.
00:15The angry and disheartened residents have already engaged in protest over the killing
00:20of Mathew and have threatened further action.
00:23Today, Pastor Dilip Samaru says the increasing crime has left residents marked by trauma
00:30and wounded emotionally.
00:54Member of Parliament for Taberkeet, Anita Haynes-Allen, expressed a similar sentiment.
01:02It has been very traumatising, especially this last weekend.
01:05We have seen an upsurge in violent attacks and murders within the constituency, and in
01:11particularly in the quiet village of Taberkeet.
01:14And so I think it is part of the overall crime problem.
01:18The MP says it seems people have forgotten there's a state of emergency and more has
01:24to be done to get a handle on the criminal elements.
01:27She says the reopening of the Brasso Police Station brings a sense of hope.
01:57consequences for actions, people will again continue to feel underserved by the system.
