Police have been kept busy over the past 24 hours, with several arrests and taking guns, ammunition and narcotics off the streets.

00:00Police have arrested a total of 18 persons overnight. One robbery suspect

00:04was held in connection with an incident at Marival Road restaurant and a bar. At

00:0910.30 on Friday night, Highway Patrol officers responded to a report of a

00:14robbery in progress. At the scene, the officers were told the suspect fled on

00:18foot in the direction of the Queen's Park Savannah. Immediate canvassing of

00:23the area resulted in the apprehension of a 21-year-old from Jojolene, El Socorro.

00:28Also on Friday night, raids of homes of known offenders in the Sandy

00:32Grande district led to the arrest of five persons ages 21 to 34 for various

00:37offenses, including for possession of cannabis and for shooting offenses in

00:42the district. Police searched the fruit stall and car park corner of South Quay and

00:46Charlotte Street, where they uncovered cannabis and camouflaged clothing. Two

00:51men were arrested. At Village Council Street, officers arrested a man in

00:55connection with robbery offenses in Portaspin. A search of a home in

00:59Welcome Road, Cunapir, led to the recovery of a firearm loaded with two

01:04rungs of 9mm ammunition and the arrest of a 44-year-old man. Police

01:10went to Southern Main Road, Curapa, where they searched a 31-year-old Komuto

01:14man to find a tanfolio pistol fitted with a magazine containing 10 rungs of

01:199mm ammunition. On Eastern Main Road, Aruka, a 31-year-old man of

01:25Bertie Road, Aruka, ran when he saw a police vehicle. Officers searched the man

01:30and discovered a black Glock 19 pistol equipped with an extended magazine

01:35containing 16 rungs of 9mm ammunition, four of which belonged to

01:40the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment. The search of a home in Bamboo Settlement

01:45No. 3, police discovered an air rifle and a 9mm pistol with a

01:50magazine containing 13 rungs of 9mm ammunition. Two women and one man
