Transcript
00:00The John Cupid Carnival Village came alive at its official opening celebrating the vibrant
00:05traditions of Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival. From Blue Devils and Moko Jumbies to Midnight
00:10Robbers and Chutney Dancers, the cultural showcase provided a feast for the eyes and ears.
00:16Tourism Minister Randall Mitchell highlighted the village's growth,
00:19noting a significant increase in visitors turn out over the past two years.
00:24During Carnival 2023, the National Carnival Commission recorded over 70,000 patrons visiting
00:32this Carnival Village. And in 2024, the NCC recorded an increase of patronage to the Carnival
00:42Village of over 100,000 persons. And that is an increase of over 30,000 more persons
00:51experiencing this Carnival Village in 2024 over 2023. Minister Mitchell also projected
00:58Carnival 2025 to be one of the most successful in history. We have already seen a remarkable
01:04increase in the number of events with between 300 to 400 Carnival events and FETS scheduled to take
01:12place. This year, we have 410 more aircraft arriving to Trinidad and Tobago from our
01:23international destinations from February 1st to the first week in March. Beyond this cultural
01:29displays, everything at the Carnival Village is 100% locally produced. And there's more good
01:35news for attendees. All the events and shows here are free of charge to the public.
01:42Mitchell also highlighted the diverse range of performances and youth-focused events.
01:46With 20 events covering a wide range of our Carnival music genres, from extempo to chutney
01:54to calypso and soca, there are also youth-focused events, a youth extravaganza, and stars of
02:02tomorrow. So I encourage all to come out and support our local entertainers and artisans.
02:09The Carnival Village will also welcome hundreds of school children from primary and secondary
02:14schools nationwide, ensuring the next generation stays connected to the country's cultural heritage.
02:20With morning activities for children and cruise ship visitors, and evening concerts featuring
02:26theme performances, the John Cupid Carnival Village promises something for everyone.
