The eight are Calypso Rose, Bertil Sinclair, Alan Richards, the late James A. A. Begart,
00:07
the late Dr. Jacob Delwitt Elder, the late Alzuiz Morian, and Edna Morian, and the late
00:14
Mighty Shadow.
00:15
The THA labeled the unveiling a celebration of Tobago's history and legacy.
00:22
Tourism Secretary Tasha Boris said the day marked not only the start of October Carnival,
00:27
but the reaffirmation of the importance of service, dedication, and the preservation
00:33
of the island's cultural identity.
00:36
Today marks an occasion where we pay tribute to the trailblazers, the visionaries, the
00:42
custodians of our culture and history, and those dynamic individuals who have made remarkable
00:49
contributions to Tobago's rich heritage, its social advancement, and our enduring community
00:57
Areas unveiled include the Bertil Sinclair Roundabout, the Mighty Shadow Avenue along
01:04
Shaw Park, and the Calypso Rose Boulevard near the Scarborough Esplanade.
01:10
Calypso Rose hailed the occasion, in addition to the other icons and their representatives
01:17
in attendance.
01:18
Wednesday gone was six years since his passing.
01:22
October is a funny month for me because he was born on the 4th of October and he died
01:27
on the 23rd, which is also Calypso History Month.
01:31
It's interesting that they decided this year to do that because this year is 50 years since
01:35
Baseman.
01:36
I remember vividly in 1981 when Alvin Coney asked me to coach the National Under-13.
01:44
We were going to Puerto Rico.
01:46
When I picked Dwight York, he was 10 years old.
01:50
The manager came to me and said, where are you going with that little boy?
01:53
I just told him, I said, who's picking the team?
01:55
But they shut him out after that.
01:57
I would like to thank the good Lord for the inspiration that he had given me to write
02:04
over a thousand calypsos.
02:11
The last calypso I wrote is about three weeks ago, about Tobago and the carnival.
02:20
And I sent it to Tobago and a young girl performed it last night.
