00:01President of Arrive Alive, Sharon Ingerfield, warns revellers to plan ahead this carnival
00:06season.
00:07She emphasizes that if you intend to drink heavily, arrange safe transportation to ensure
00:13you wake up safely on Ash Wednesday.
00:16Let's plan our business properly this carnival.
00:20Let's ensure that we designate a driver who is sober, who is responsible, organize transport,
00:29organize a taxi, and you know, let's be responsible, let's all be responsible, but have lots of
00:36fun.
00:37And TTPS Road Safety Officer Brent Batson tells The Morning Edition law enforcement will maintain
00:44heightened vigilance throughout the festivities.
00:47Remember, if you are coming into Port of Spain and you're going to these activities, even
00:52if you're passing through PTSC, there will be enhanced security and screening.
00:56What does that mean?
00:57Why are you coming into Port of Spain with a knife in your pocket?
01:01To peel orange, sir.
01:03All right, good way, but I have a bag of orange somewhere, all right, to justify that.
01:07So we don't want people coming in with any offensive weapons.
01:11He also highlights the recent stink and dirt effect as an example of breaches.
01:16People were dancing in the road, oblivious to traffic, and their behaviors actually triggered
01:22primary and secondary accidents in the roadway because persons had to slam on the brakes
01:27where a person went into the roadway, persons were hit from behind, you know, when persons
01:31stopped.
01:32And, you know, we want everybody to have a good time, by all means, but our job is public
01:38safety.
01:38He also warns fines for breaking the law, especially driving under the influence, have been increased
01:45astronomically.
01:47Meanwhile, the president of Arrive Alive is urging carnival goers to consider whether a
01:53night of reckless fun is worth being detained in a cold police cell.
01:58What's more frightening than even the fines, for me, is the fact that it's an arrestable
02:03offence.
02:04You're put in handcuffs, you're put in the back of a van, you're taken down to a cell,
02:09a jail cell.
02:11If you're arrested on Friday, you're kept there for the whole carnival.
02:15So, I mean, that in itself is frightening to me, even before the fines were doubled.

02:28CC on Saturday.
02:28Relax, go on.
02:28Try to discuss it in a fine case, and let it take you off.
02:28I will do it in a fine case, and I will start to progress, and then tell you what the鬱
02:28of the sea and the cold is having the Last supporters. I am
02:29sorry. I'm
02:29sorry. I'm
02:29I'm sorry.
02:29What is bad?
