00:00Preparations for the parade venue are in full swing, from the paint to the plants and the
00:09decorations that would lift the aesthetic of the grandstand of the Queen's Park Savannah
00:14as the country ushers in 62 years of independence.
00:23Members of the TNT Cadet Force say they arrived for rehearsals around 6 a.m. on Thursday and
00:29ran through the proceedings for welcoming dignitaries and other drills.
00:34Sergeant John Luke Joseph of 4th Battalion Holy Cross Unit has been to four independence
00:41parades.
00:42He explains the breakdown of the Cadet Force contingent patrons can expect to see on August
00:4731st.
00:48We have four officers which will be situated in front of each detachment.
00:53We will have two warrant officers, each for both detachments, so that will be four warrant
00:58officers that will be stationed as supernaries to the back of the detachment, 36 cadets per
01:06detachment which is maritime, aviation and naval and a full infantry detachment and then
01:12we will have a right marker and a left guide for each detachment, so that's four markers.
01:19According to Joseph, they began training for this parade on the last Saturday in July and
01:24every Saturday thereafter.
01:26As for rehearsals, they were held on Monday and Tuesday as well.
01:31Sergeant Shadrack Ramburansingh is from the Maritime Battalion Aviation Arima Central
01:36Unit.
01:37He has been to several parades, but it's his first time marching for Independence Day and
01:42his last year in the Cadet Force.
01:44It is kind of different because you know, stand up longer, you know, hot sun, but it's
01:51very different.
01:52How do you prepare for that kind of, you know, rigorous day on Saturday?
01:58Well, stay hydrated, you know, always eat, you know, have a full meal.
02:02The cadet's message to members of the public is to come out and view the parade.
02:07We take a lot of time, precision, drills and a lot of effort is put out for us to come
02:15out here, but it's also us embracing the fact that we could celebrate independence.
02:21We are liberated in a way and we, it's about personal introspection and personal knowledge.
