00:00In a TTPS media statement today, DCP Martin says making misleading comments
00:06could undermine the ongoing investigation into Police Commissioner
00:10Harewood Christopher and retired Major and former SSA Director Roger Best.
00:15On Sunday, she urged the public to refrain from engaging in speculation.
00:20Her comments come after a media report suggested the DCP claimed
00:24Commissioner Harewood Christopher would not stay on as the top cop
00:28while the investigation is conducted.
00:30The TTPS says DCP Martin made no such statement
00:34and she is not in a position to make any comment on the tenure of Commissioner.
00:38DCP Martin was quoted as saying,
00:41The investigations are being handled with the utmost professionalism,
00:45transparency and impartiality,
00:47and justice must be based on facts and due process
00:51rather than assumptions or biased narratives.
00:55Premature conclusions and false information can create unnecessary tension
00:59and hinder the work of investigators.
01:02She went on to say,
01:04I give the assurance that the investigation,
01:07which has been guided all along by the Director of Public Prosecutions,
01:11is being treated with the utmost seriousness
01:14and all findings will be based on credible evidence.
01:17Let us all exercise responsibility
01:20by allowing the investigation to unfold without interference.
01:25She then called on everyone to uphold fairness,
01:28trust the legal system,
01:30and refrain from sensationalizing the case.
01:33Instead, await the facts before forming opinions.
01:36The TTPS says it will continue to provide updates as circumstances allow
01:41as they remain focused on maintaining public trust.
