The President of the Police Social and Welfare Association is urging the public to avoid speculation as investigations continue into the alleged discovery of firearms and other exhibits at the Belmont Police Station. He says the facts will be made public at the appropriate time.

00:00Police Social and Welfare Association President ASP Ishmael Pitt says the matter is now before the senior officers and the
00:08relevant investigative authorities.
00:10He says the public will be updated when appropriate, urging against speculation while the investigation remains ongoing.
00:17I can't and I would not offer what I don't know at this point in time, but I would agree
00:23with you that sometimes in the absence of information, you know, persons are left to fill in.
00:30But we would always say that, you know, the public will be provided with what is necessary at a point
00:34in time and, you know, on completion updates will be forthcoming.
00:40ASP Pitt also says officers continue to fear the strain of the ongoing state of emergency, noting that prolonged periods
00:47of pressure can lead to burnout and mental fatigue.
00:51He stresses that police officers are human beings and are not immune to those challenges.
00:56Now, add police into it, a profession that has a significant amount of responsibilities where decisions can be made that
01:09could impact life and livelihood.
01:11You can well imagine how, you know, uncertain such a situation could be and when we consider members of the
01:22public and how they would view things, you know, when they occur, we are, I would say, putting police officers
01:30in an unfair position.
01:32He warns that prolonged stress can affect an officer's ability to perform effectively, underscoring the importance of supporting the well
01:41-being of members as they continue to carry out their duties.
01:44We want our supervisors to be very vigilant in terms of flags because not all the time police would come
01:54out and identify that they are experiencing issues.
01:59And we will act even further that the management of the organization be very much considerate of the issues that
02:08police officers on the ground will face on a daily basis.
02:13Notwithstanding, we have a significant trajectory regarding the demand.
