00:00As investigations into the firearms importation case continue, former Chairman of the Police
00:05Service Commission, Professor Ramesh Devsaran, says the release of Police Commissioner Ulla
00:10Harewood-Christopher on Saturday should give the public some degree of reassurance that
00:16due diligence and fairness is being meted out to those involved.
00:21The public should be satisfied with having the DPP as an independent constitutional official
00:32because in other words he has helped to rescue the situation from the area of darkness it
00:39has plunged ourselves in.
00:41The system seems to have worked and so far, so far, not completely so, but so far in favour
00:48of the Commissioner of Police Ulla-Christopher, so while some relief has been brought upon
00:56her, it is so far temporary relief subject to, as the DPP instructed, further enquiries.
01:04Speaking to TV6 News, he says it is a significant development to see that while she was released,
01:10the DPP noted his decision was subject to continuing enquiries, implying the investigation
01:16is not yet finished.
01:18There are some gaps still to be filled, as pointed out by Ms Ulla, and I would ask the
01:25Police Service Commission to move very cautiously, but of course they will have to appoint, they
01:32may also consider appointing an acting Police Commissioner from the available DCPs.
01:40I would advise the Police Service Commission, with respect, to seek proper legal advice
01:48as to how to move forward.
01:50He points out that the case is not clear-cut, where there is a resignation or vacancy to
01:56fill and legal advice on the next step of the Police Service Commission is crucial.
