The country's first female Commissioner Erla Harewood Christopher remained in police custody for a second day as investigators continued their probe into her role in the importation of two sniper rifles for the Strategic Services Agency (S-S-A).

00:00The St. Clair Police Station is where Commissioner of Police Ella Harewood-Christopher spent
00:05last night in her room after she had been moved from the Police Administration building
00:10following an almost seven-hour interrogation by investigators who questioned her about
00:14the importation of two sniper rifles for the SSA sometime in 2023.
00:19At the station, strict security protocols were put in place by investigators attached
00:24to the Unit of the Investigations and Intelligence headed by DCP Suzette Martin.
00:29The commissioner was not allowed to speak to any senior police officers and could only
00:33be visited by her husband or attorney.
00:36During the course of the day, Christopher had complained about feeling unwell and things
00:39were put in place to seek medical treatment, but according to sources close to the investigation,
00:44she later refused and indicated she could resume speaking to investigators.
00:49Her lawyer Terry Boyer later arrived at the police station and up to news time, sources
00:53say that she was being further questioned in the company of a lawyer.
00:57Sources also say that contrary to social media reports, the Chief of Defence Staff
01:01had not been detained, but rather investigators from the Intelligence and Investigations Unit
01:07went to speak to CDS Daryl Daniel earlier today to clarify information related to the
01:13executing of the siege warrant at the home of former head of the SSA retired Major Roger
01:18Best on Wednesday night in which certain items were found.
01:23The commissioner was questioned in the high-profile investigation that has been ongoing for ten
01:27months and 24 hours after Best was detained late on Wednesday evening by police officers
01:33at his home in Arima after a warrant was executed there.
01:37Senior police officers told TV6 they were investigating who signed off on the documents
01:42that allow for the importation of the high-powered weapons that later found their way to the
01:46SSA.
01:48Sources say they expect to approach the DPP soon for further advice in the matter and
01:52possible charges of misbehaving in public office and perverting the course of justice
01:57are being looked at in this complex case.
