A more reliable water supply to Tobago is being realised. This from CEO of the Water and Sewerage Authority Keithroy Halliday.
He says approximately thirty-five thousand customers in Tobago have benefited with over four hundred thousand benefitting in Trinidad.
Mr. Halliday spoke in Tobago on Wednesday at a Wasa media conference at the Central Administrative Services, Tobago (C.A.S.T).
Elizabeth Williams attended the conference and has this report.

In the two years, we have basically completed projects that has benefited
00:08
over 400,000 of our customers. In Tobago, we have been pursuing several projects
00:14
as well. There are quite a few, over 20 by my last count, which have
00:19
benefited at least 30 to 35,000 customers. Mr. Halliday, as he spoke in
00:24
Tobago on Wednesday, said traditional means of acquiring water alone cannot be
00:29
relied upon. Here in Tobago, I think we have seven surface water treatment
00:35
plants and we have at least 25 wells, which is the sum of most of our
00:41
production for Tobago. There are other options on the cards. We have to be open
00:46
to that. We can't just rely on the traditional means of producing water. I
00:51
would say, however, that Tobago is pretty much advanced in terms of Trinidad and
00:56
where Trinidad is, in terms of augmenting or continuing to develop its
01:00
own production and the landscape. Speaking on road repair issues after
01:05
leaks are repaired by WASA, he stated a meeting is to be held with the THA on
01:11
this matter, as it remains a bugbear. There are thousands of road repairs that we
01:17
still need to do. We are able to do the restorations very quickly in terms of
01:23
filling the holes, filling the gaps, etc., which most people may not see because
01:29
unfortunately the rains inevitably wash out that road fill or that mile fill
01:35
that we will put in place. And then we have to refill it and refill it again if
01:40
we're not able to do the pitch or lay the pitch. We're trying to solve that.
01:45
Ensuring hotels and guest houses also receive a reliable water supply in light
01:51
of Tobago's tourism thrust was also looked at.
01:54
The upgrade of the Bathurst tank site, the painting and the upgrading of the tanks, the installation of the
02:00
boosters, the installation of one well, which will soon, I hope, before the end of the dry season,
02:06
be the installation of two additional wells. The express intent is to provide
02:12
new water to support any possible shortfalls in the upcoming dry season to
02:18
southwest and the tourism belts. WASA is also reminding members of the public to
02:23
conserve their water supply. Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
