00:00In our investigation so far, we have identified that there have been some deeds, a number
00:05of deeds, deed pulls, will duties, and bills of sale that had not been processed for submission
00:11over the last two months, totaling over 50 documents.
00:16These have since been addressed, and it has been narrowed down to the actions of one or
00:20two employees, with investigations continuing and with the requisite action to be taken.
00:26For months, Tobegonians have had to put up with issues at the Registrar General's office
00:31in Tobago, with employees there at times turning away people seeking their services.
00:37The Attorney General, in acknowledgement of these delays, apologized to the people of
00:42Tobago.
00:43Ladies and gentlemen, members of the Tobago public, as Attorney General and Minister
00:49of Legal Affairs, I stand here today to apologize to the people of Tobago.
00:55As to the lockout of Tobegonians from operating systems in Trinidad via the Tobago office,
01:02the Attorney General explains.
01:04About a year ago, the operating system for the companies crashed.
01:10And that goes to the last point that you made, that some forms are no longer available and
01:14new forms have to come on board.
01:16The point is that the operating system for companies crashed and a new system was purchased,
01:22a new software system was purchased and installed.
01:26And the instructions on that new system is that for security reasons, only the persons
01:33operating the system in Trinidad are allowed access to the operating systems.
01:40The Attorney General says additional personnel are being interviewed and hired to address
01:46the inefficiencies of the Registrar General's office in Tobago.
01:50As we speak, two senior legal officers were supposed to take up office today.
01:55And there are other interviews that have been completed and persons who are coming in.
01:59As for the way forward, the Attorney General has given a period of six months for a more
02:05efficient delivery of services.
02:08I would want to hope that we will have a timeline in the short term, and you will recall in
02:14the timeline I gave, I gave short term, in the short term, six weeks from today.
02:19Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
