Outgoing Political Leader of the People's National Movement Tobago Council, Ancil Dennis, says both former Minority Leader Kelvon Morris and former Tobago West MP Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis are suitable candidates to lead the party in Tobago.

Dennis made the comment following Morris' announcement on Thursday that he will be contesting the leadership of the PNM Tobago Council.

Morris, who previously served as Minority Leader in the Tobago House of Assembly, signalled his intention to play a greater role in rebuilding and strengthening the party's presence on the island.

00:00Both of them are suitable candidates and at the end of the day it will be up to the membership
00:06of the party to decide.
00:10That is how we always conduct our affairs. The members of the party have to be the political leader and
00:16the executive by extension.
00:17Mr. Dennis said he wishes Mr. Morris, Mrs. Kujo-Lewis and all candidates offering themselves for service under the PNM
00:26-Tobago Council banner the very best and remains willing to work with whoever is elected.
00:32Well, I want to wish all of the candidates, not only for political leader, but for all the other positions
00:41that will be contested next month.
00:43I want to wish them all the best. They thank them for the service thus far to the party and
00:51also congratulate all of them for stepping forward.
00:54Mr. Dennis confirmed that he will be casting his vote in the party's internal election scheduled for April 19th.
01:02However, he declined to state which of the two candidates he would be supporting.
01:07Despite the party's recent challenges in Tobago, losing 15-0 in the last THA election, Dennis expressed confidence that the
01:16People's National Movement can stage a political comeback on the island.
01:20He also maintained that he has no regrets about his tenure in leadership, noting that he served the party and
01:28the people of Tobago to the best of his ability.
01:32Of course, democracy is about cycles. At the end of the day, it's up to the people.
01:40But one thing the PNM will always ensure is that whenever we are called upon again, we will be ready
01:48to bring good governance to the island of Tobago and the country by extension.
01:55Okay. And in terms of the leadership, any regrets in terms of your leadership at all?
02:03None at all. More regrets. I did it to the best of my ability. I did it my way.
