Dr. Amery Browne, who initially denied any plans to contest the Diego Martin West seat before formally entering the race, has now withdrawn his nomination just one week later. Meantime, the Diego Martin West constituency confirms that media personality Hans Des Vignes is emerging as the frontrunner. But how do the constituents feel about these developments? Rynessa Cutting went on the ground to find out.

00:00Diggle Martin West constituency chairman Jackie Lazarus confirms that Hans
00:05De Veens has emerged as the front-runner for candidacy of the Diggle Martin West
00:10seat with a total of 12 of 25 party groups throwing their support behind
00:16the political newcomer. There's a lot going on behind the scenes in the
00:20contest for the Diggle Martin West constituency as the current MP Prime
00:25Minister Dr. Keith Rowley prepares to resign. It was only on January 10th that
00:30PNM Senator Dr. Amy Brown expressed interest in the seat requesting to be
00:35considered for the nomination. However just days later on January 17th Brown
00:40reversed his decision. In a letter he said quote upon consideration of further
00:45advice I have made the decision to withdraw my name from the Diggle Martin
00:50West nomination process. I remain in full support of the PNM party and I'm
00:55completely committed to a best outcome in the upcoming elections end quote. Dr.
01:01Brown did not respond to questions by TV6 on the reasons behind his latest
01:06decision. TV6 visited the Diggle Martin West constituency to get the views of
01:12the constituents.
01:30TV6 News has learned that several other individuals are also seeking the
01:34nomination for the Diggle Martin West seat including Miss Yokima Bethalmy,
01:40Mrs. Anna Suleman, Mr. Lesedi Felix and Mr. Curtis Toussaint, the current
01:46constituency General Secretary. However many constituents appear to be
01:51unaware of these developments as expressed by one resident.
01:56People are brainwashed traditionally. It is simple. People are brainwashed traditionally but
02:02people do not understand that tradition can be perverted. Somebody needs to ask
02:08a question. Is this dumb loyalty at some point in time? Come on we need
02:16somebody. When the turn around will happen. Turn around is now brother. People
02:22fed up but I just didn't want to say because people like to hide behind a
02:27leader. They don't know all our leaders. We found that a few in Coronado share
02:31the sentiments especially in what has traditionally been a PNM stronghold. I
02:36can't live in a town so long. After 10 years, you're giving people 2% and you're
02:42taking the great majority which is why I find it wasn't sharing because it's the
02:48people who put you there and you never give them back nothing and then your
02:52words is don't forget you remember you. It's good to remember. Interestingly the same
02:57discontent was circled along the Diggle Martin main road. Nevertheless the
03:01consensus among many is that the PNM will likely retain power.
03:08How do you feel about your current representation?
03:10None at all. I don't feel I never feel like the Andrews. I don't like them period.
03:17So who are you voting for this year?
03:19Hopefully
03:24I had so much at an interview thinking that they would have merged together.
03:31And formed one party to contest against the PNM.
03:36But as long as the division is there, they will not win the election. None of them.
03:40Sorry to say that. PNM will win again.
