The PNM will be conducting the screening of prospective candidates for two constituencies on Thursday 23rd January, as it seeks to add to its present tally of 32-approved candidates thus far.

Among those set to be screened on Thursday are a Government Minster and a Local Government councillor.

00:00TV6 News has been informed that Tourism Minister and Government Senator Randall Mitchell will
00:06be going before the PNM's Screening Committee on Thursday as it seeks a prospective candidate
00:11for the La Bré constituency in the general election due this year.
00:16The PNM announced on Wednesday that it will conduct its screening exercise for that constituency
00:22at the party's Balize House headquarters in Port of Spain on Thursday but did not identify
00:27the nominees by name.
00:29Labour Minister Stephen McClatchy will not be contesting the La Bré constituency he
00:34won for the PNM in the 2020 general election.
00:37TV6 News has been informed that one other nominee set to go before the Screening Committee
00:43for La Bré is the party's constituency chairman, Jermaine Payot.
00:48The PNM also announced on Wednesday five nominees will be screened for Lavatille-East-Mauva.
00:55Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Adrian Lyons has been the MP for
00:59Lavatille-East-Mauva since he first won the seat for the PNM in the 2015 general election.
01:06On December 3rd of last year, the Express newspaper reported Minister Lyons would not
01:11be offering himself to be a candidate for the PNM due to some very serious personal
01:16issues that affect him and his family.
01:19The PNM said on Wednesday that five persons from the Lavatille-East-Mauva constituency
01:24have received nominations and will appear before the party's Screening Committee on
01:28Thursday but did not identify them by name.
01:32TV6 News has been informed that among the five nominees are former Temporary Government
01:36Senator Dr. Jeremy Innes, San Juan-Lavatille Regional Corporation Councillor Junior Saint-Hilaire
01:44and Director of Simpson's Funeral Home David Simpson.
01:48The PNM's Screening Committee is chaired by the political leader of the party, Prime
01:51Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, who has said he will not be seeking re-election this year
01:57and plans to resign as Prime Minister before the end of the term.
02:01The PNM is yet to announce when it will screen prospective candidates for De Gaulle-Martin
02:05West, which has been represented by Dr. Rowley for over three decades.
02:10However, businessman Hans De Veens is the reported front-runner.
02:15The PNM is also set to select a candidate for Dabadie O'Meara following the tragic
02:19death of former Minister Lisa Morrish-Julian and two of her children in a fire at her home
02:24in December of last year.
