00:00I want to say something here to the people of Trinidad and Tobago, especially the East
00:03Indian population. You have nothing to fear from the rest of the population.
00:08Prime Minister Dr Keith Iraoli responding to an Express front page article about opposition
00:13leader Kamala Prasad Bissett's defence of one of her MPs, Dr Rudal Munilal, as he faces
00:18new allegations in a civil claim regarding contractors and their state management development
00:23company limited, the EMBD.
00:27Kamala dismisses corruption claims against Munilal as, quote, all them Indians is thief,
00:39unquote, smear campaign. And the headline says racist election plot. Rudal slams government's
00:50cock and bull story. The law will determine who is police and who is thief. This is a
01:00particularly offensive comment by Mrs Prasad Bissett. We have Indian children here in primary
01:09school, in kindergarten, in university. We have people of Indian population in the public
01:15service at every level.
01:17The prime minister said the claim by the contractors and other interested parties involves
01:21works carried out on 10 ancillary roads in Karani in 2015 during the People's Partnership
01:26administration before that year's general election at a cost of $330 million, payments
01:33for which were challenged by the EMBD under the present PNM administration.
01:38So the attempt to prevent EMBD from seeking to protect the public interest by using the
01:46court failed three times. And at the end, the state's company position prevails. And
01:58they are now required, having exhausted those steps, they are now required to put in their
02:04defense so that the matter can be heard, the substance of the matter can be heard in the
02:09court, and the evidence can be adjudicated upon by the court, because it has always been
02:14a court matter.
02:16The prime minister said the EMBD is 100% funded by the state. Jule Brown, TV6 News.
