Former Prime Minister Stuart Young is directing the country's attention to the Petrotrin Refinery saying the approach taken by the present Government is not as transparent as with the PNM.
Transcript
00:00Former Energy Minister Stuart Young is notifying the country that all work being currently
00:06publicised in the energy sector was due to the PNM.
00:10All of the work that was done in this sector, that is really done at a global level, was
00:16done in the last nine and a half years in a very competitive and a very complex environment.
00:24And fortunately, this party, the PNM, always does what is best for Trinidad and Tobago.
00:32So I am happy to say that today what we're seeing and we will continue to see over the
00:37next couple of years, the benefits and the coming home of the work that was done by our
00:44administration.
00:45At the opposition weekly media briefing on Tuesday, he says it's easy to fact check.
00:51One of the main items that we achieved that is actually keeping the Treasury afloat today
00:57is the restructuring of Atlantic LNG and, in particular, the foresight and the ability to
01:03negotiate better gas prices for Trinidad and Tobago's gas.
01:09So what we're seeing today, and without a shadow of a doubt and it cannot be contradicted, is
01:17the benefit of the work that we achieved and the gas prices that we achieved and put in
01:22place in 2019.
01:24And also because energy returns take years to come to fruition.
01:29Trinidad and Tobago received our green hydrogen project, tops the regional energy awards.
01:36Again, it was the previous administration's cabinet, the PNM cabinet that took the decision for us
01:43to be the first in the CARICOM region and one of the first in this part of the hemisphere
01:50to set about to have a green hydrogen project because we are perfectly poised for it.
01:56That is our work, our decision to have a pilot project and green hydrogen has not yet become
02:02commercial across the world.
02:04He listed them one by one before referencing the wind energy thrust.
02:09It is the previous administration that had the foresight to put Trinidad and Tobago at
02:14the forefront of alternate energy, wind and, and I'll touch on, solar in the whole CARICOM
02:24and this part of the world and the region.
02:27So what you're seeing now are the results of the decisions we took.
02:31But the former energy minister left with a single warning.
02:36And I end on the energy sector by cautioning Trinidad and Tobago, look very closely at what
02:42happens with the refinery.
02:44Because the previous administration went through proper processes, open tenders, open evaluations.
02:52But what we're seeing taking place now with the setting up of a committee in silence and all
02:59of a sudden hiding under confidentiality, the procurement and the disposal of these state
03:07assets, in particular the refinery, must be carefully, carefully looked at.
