00:00The People's National Movement has continued to fulfill the wish and the desire of Dr.
00:08Eric Williams under our current leader, Dr. Rowley, to ensure that our party protects
00:15Trinidad and Tobago and ensures that we recognize every creed, every race, every religious persuasion,
00:24every station of life, no matter where you come from, and that it is recognized right
00:30here at Balize House, our home, that we welcome everyone.
00:36At a time when the rumor mill is in full swing with respect to the future leadership of the
00:41People's National Movement, the rumored frontrunner and political anointee appeared to hit back
00:46at detractors who suggest that his race may be a deciding factor.
00:52I am proud to stand here tonight as a simple citizen of Trinidad and Tobago who has been
00:59blessed with the opportunity to serve the people, not only of this great party, but
01:04of our beloved Twin Islands state, and to say that we in the People's National Movement,
01:10without a shadow of a doubt and without fear of contradiction, will continue to protect
01:16Trinidad and Tobago and its development and its inclusivity.
01:21And I ask all of the members of our great party to work with us as we continue to do so.
01:27His comments come two weeks after the party announced its decision to postpone its internal
01:33election and annual convention, with no explanation given.
01:38So I say here tonight to all of the naysayers and to all of those who are trying to get
01:44involved in the PNM's business, you will not succeed.
01:49Prime Minister Young, who is acting as Prime Minister for the third time, was speaking
01:54at the party's Diwali celebrations last evening, where he used the theme of the occasion to
01:59issue the following call, ahead of the next general election.
02:05So my message to you is a simple one on this celebration of one of our religious festivities
02:11of our Hindu brothers and sisters, Diwali.
02:16Light must always overcome darkness and it will depend on all of us to decide who is
02:22going to manage Trinidad and Tobago in the next period.
02:27I'd like you to join with me as we say, great is the PNM, great is the PNM, great is the
02:35PNM and we shall and we must prevail.
