Killer Greg Lynn launches appeal over murder conviction

Greg Lynn has formally lodged an appeal in Victoria’s highest court, seeking to overturn his murder conviction over the death of retiree Carol Clay. He was jailed for 32 years for the murder of Ms Clay in the Wonnangatta Valley four years ago.

00:00Basically, yesterday, New South Wales Police told us that Alan Jones was facing 24 charges

00:07in relation to their investigation over a number of alleged incidents which they say

00:11took place between 2001 and 2019.

00:15What we now know is that he was formally laid with 26 charges yesterday when he was at the

00:20Day Street Police Station and you can see him leaving after he was granted bail yesterday

00:24afternoon.

00:26Now there was two additional charges that were laid yesterday that we didn't know about

00:30that were in relation to assault with act of indecency and they say that relates to

00:35a ninth alleged victim which takes it from 8 to 9 since yesterday.

00:39The most serious charges that Alan Jones is facing though are 11 charges of aggravated

00:44indecent assault which can carry a maximum penalty of 7 years imprisonment for each alleged

00:51offence.

00:52Like I said, Jones remains on bail and he's at his luxury apartment in Circular Quay where

00:57he was arrested yesterday when trial abuse squad detectives knocked on his door, eventually

01:02taking him to Day Street Police Station.

01:04He can't travel overseas, he's surrendered his passport and he can't contact any of the

01:09witnesses involved in this case.

01:11And what's his lawyer had to say?

01:13Well, high profile Sydney criminal lawyer Chris Murphy, after Jones was slowly led in

01:18the back of a vehicle that awaited his arrival to take him back to his luxury apartment after

01:23being granted bail, Chris Murphy, he basically professed the innocence of Alan Jones and

01:28said he denies any misconduct, he says any kind of defence will be laid out through the

01:34courts.

01:35But he also had some criticism for NSW Assistant Police Commissioner Michael Fitzgerald for

01:46praising some of those alleged victims who came forward in part of that 9 month investigation.

01:52Here's what Mr Murphy had to say.

01:54I think it's totally contemptible of the Assistant Commissioner of Police to be praising the

02:01witnesses who he might like to call victim.

02:04This is a matter for a courtroom and I believe that he's in terrible breach doing that.

02:09But Mr Jones will be defending this case.

02:13Now there's not been an official response from NSW Police in regards to those comments

02:17from Chris Murphy.

02:18How this all plays out in Alan Jones case, well we won't find out, at least until he

02:24faces court for the first time on December 18th Joe.
