00:00Greg Lynn will be 79 years old before he's eligible for parole, after he was today sentenced
00:08to 32 years in prison, with a non-parole period of 24 years.
00:13Justice Michael Croucher said he considered lack of prior convictions, deterrence and
00:17the prospects of rehabilitation in determining the sentence.
00:21Lynn was found guilty by a jury in July of murdering Carol Clay, as she camped in Victoria's
00:27High Country with her companion Russell Hill in March 2020.
00:32The jury found Lynn not guilty of murdering Mr Hill.
00:36Lynn admitted to covering up the deaths, burning evidence from the campsite and their bodies,
00:42but he maintains the deaths were an accident, and that Mrs Clay was accidentally shot during
00:48a struggle over the gun between the two men.
00:52Justice Croucher says Mrs Clay died a violent and brutal death, and Lynn's moral culpability
00:57was high.
00:58There were audible gasps in the courtroom when Lynn was sentenced, however Lynn himself
01:03was emotionless.
01:05Lynn's legal team has previously indicated that they will appeal.
