Peter Bullen takes the Canberra Times on a tour of his underground home
Transcript
00:02I sort of had thought about what sort of house I wanted for years and years and
00:07being able to finally do it, it's been great.
00:13I'm really, really surprised because it was a big gamble, you know, whether you spend all
00:17this money to build something quite different and you know we've never had a leak or anything
00:22like that, it's worked out really well. If I turn that heater on, I turn it on for an hour,
00:26it heats the place up and then that heat stays and all the sun coming through warms everything
00:33up and so I don't have the heater on for more than an hour and then right through the middle
00:36of the night it gets down to about 18 degrees, 17 degrees and that works really well.
00:44Well I love natives, most of them natives, the only deciduous ones is for the courtyard so that
00:52lets all the sun in the winter and it's completely covered in summer. Any inspiration I need I
00:57just go up to the botanical gardens, go for a walk. Everyone should build houses that are a bit
01:04gentler on the environment I reckon.
