00:01Well, today a court of appeal judge has ruled that Greg Lynn's situation does not meet the
00:07exceptional circumstances required to justify his release on bail. He will be waiting in custody as
00:15he waits for his retrial. Now, in 2024, Greg Lynn was convicted and jailed for the alleged murder
00:22of camper Carol Clay in Victoria's high country in 2020. Last year, that conviction was overturned
00:29by the court of appeal. He's now facing a retrial. We don't know when that will be. But last week
00:36at
00:36a bail hearing, we heard his lawyers and prosecutors argue why he should or shouldn't be allowed to be
00:42in the community as he awaits that retrial. His lawyers had argued that there had been extensive
00:49media reporting on his case. And for that reason, the prospect of him having a fair trial this year
00:56or next year or any time in the near future had been completely obliterated. Meanwhile, prosecutors
01:02had argued that he shouldn't be let out into the community and that any potential prejudice
01:09could be mitigated through jury instruction. This is a key component in the jury system. Many jurors
01:14are told that if they feel like they've been influenced by outside factors, then they should
01:19excuse themselves. His lawyers had argued that he could stay at his son's residence, a stable
01:24residence. And his son had also offered to put up his life savings as a surety. But as I said
01:31in a brief hearing today, his bail has been denied. And we're still waiting to hear when that retrial
01:38will be.
