00:00Parent Teacher Association is praising the public school system in the wake of the publication of
00:04the CSEC and CAPE regional merit lists. Trinidad and Tobago was recognized among the top regional
00:10awardees for 2024 with 194 students listed on the CAPE merit list and 159 students on the CSEC list.
00:21In some of those subjects, when you look at the top 10, they were only Trinidad and Tobago schools
00:27featured in the regional merit list. This is a regional merit list that brings together all
00:33of Caribbean, all of CARICOM would have done the CSEC and the CAPE exams 2024.
00:40The NPTA president made special mention of several government schools which made
00:45the list. He lamented that these schools tend to receive only bad publicity.
00:50I refer to public schools like Coover East Secondary. I refer to Signal Hill
00:59Secondary in Tobago. I refer to San Fernando Central Secondary School,
01:05Rio Claro West Secondary, Arima North Secondary, Pleasantville. We know that name from October.
01:12Pleasantville is also on the regional merit list. Belmond Boys and they are here today. Belmond
01:19Boys and St. Francis Boys also on the regional merit list. Sawa North and Barataria South. Only
01:26a few of the schools, public schools, and I'm not negating members, don't get me wrong, I'm not
01:31negating the denominational schools who have also done extremely well and they are also listed on
01:38the regional merit list. But I thought it fitting because many times the indiscipline taking place
01:42in our schools by and large invariably are public government secondary schools.
