00:00And so for this year, SCA 2024, a total of 11 schools
00:05performed above the national mean.
00:08And this is up from seven schools in 2023
00:10and five from 2022.
00:12So we're seeing that upward trajectory of performance.
00:16Six additional schools performed above the national mean
00:19this year.
00:20And of course we said it before
00:21and I want us to celebrate it.
00:23Five of these schools were from the eastern end
00:26of the island.
00:27And the schools are Castara government
00:30and I'm actually calling them in rank.
00:32Here, Castara government, Boko government,
00:35Scarborough Roman Catholic, St. Nicholas private,
00:39Signal Hill government, Bethesda government,
00:42Mount St. George Methodist, Speyside Anglican,
00:45St. Andrews Anglican, Delaford Roman Catholic
00:48and Belgarden Anglican.
00:50And that's not all.
00:52The data shows that passing English alone
00:55led to 65.2% of females scoring in the highest score ranges
01:00while failing English meant that 44% of the female students
01:05scored in the lowest score ranges.
01:07For boys, passing English led to 60.7% scoring
01:13in the two highest score ranges.
01:15And remarkably, an equal number of 60.7% of the boys
01:20will perform in the lowest score if they fail English.
01:24In addition, technical advisor to the division of education
01:27and Natasha Second said project impact
01:31to treat with remedial students and accelerated students
01:36standards three to five and form one
01:39would be held from July 15th to August 16th.
01:43We wanna improve teacher efficacy
01:45in the teaching of literacy, numeracy
01:48and the integration of technology in the classroom.
01:52And finally, we want to facilitate
01:53greater accountability of principals
01:57through professional development
01:58and standardization of our systems
02:00for instructional leadership,
02:03monitoring and evaluating initiatives
02:05for student outcomes and greater parental involvement.
02:10And Natasha Second said a principals conference
02:13and the Tobago's first regional educational conference
02:17is to be ruled out.
02:18Meantime, the education secretary
02:20has this message for Tobago's students.
02:24I want every Tobago child to know that they can learn
02:27and with our academic focus for 2024, 2025
02:30on literacy and numeracy
02:32and the fact that we're gonna roll out very soon
02:34some pilot projects in this Tobago centric curriculum
02:38as well as the renewed focus on technical,
02:41vocational and skills training.
02:44Every Tobago child must be able to enter the workplace,
02:47enter the wider world as well rounded citizens,
02:52critical thinking citizens,
02:53citizens able to identify themselves
02:56with where they are and where they need to go.
