There is no correlation between the top performing student in the 2024 SEA examination and the top performing school, this from education Secretary Zorisha Hackett as she spoke during a media conference on Thursday afternoon to treat with Tobago's 2024 SEA results.

Ms. Hackett stated the top performing student for 2024 was not in the top twenty schools in Tobago. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00And so for this year, SCA 2024, a total of 11 schools
00:05performed above the national mean.
00:08And this is up from seven schools in 2023
00:10and five from 2022.

00:23Five of these schools were from the eastern end

00:27And the schools are Castara government

00:50And that's not all.
00:52The data shows that passing English alone
00:55led to 65.2% of females scoring in the highest score ranges
01:00while failing English meant that 44% of the female students
01:05scored in the lowest score ranges.
01:07For boys, passing English led to 60.7% scoring
01:13in the two highest score ranges.
01:15And remarkably, an equal number of 60.7% of the boys
01:20will perform in the lowest score if they fail English.
01:24In addition, technical advisor to the division of education

02:05for student outcomes and greater parental involvement.
02:10And Natasha Second said a principals conference
02:13and the Tobago's first regional educational conference
02:17is to be ruled out.
02:18Meantime, the education secretary
02:20has this message for Tobago's students.
02:24I want every Tobago child to know that they can learn
02:27and with our academic focus for 2024, 2025
02:30on literacy and numeracy
02:32and the fact that we're gonna roll out very soon

02:38as well as the renewed focus on technical,
02:41vocational and skills training.
02:44Every Tobago child must be able to enter the workplace,
02:47enter the wider world as well rounded citizens,
02:52critical thinking citizens,
02:53citizens able to identify themselves
02:56with where they are and where they need to go.
