A Soca Legend graduated from the University of Trinidad and Tobago on Monday with a Masters in Carnival Studies.

He and his fellow graduates were joined by five recipients of honorary doctorates from the UTT, who include a former Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly.

00:07The introduction for Ambassador and former Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly
00:11as he received his University of Trinidad and Tobago Honorary Doctorate
00:15from the President of the Twin Island Republic, Christine Kangaloo.
00:19Mr. London, a recipient of the Shekonia Medal Gold,
00:22is one of five citizens who became Honorary Doctors with regard to their fields of endeavor
00:28during the UTT's 2024 presentation of graduates
00:31in the Lord Kitchener Auditorium at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain.
00:37The others are new Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts, Leon Smooth Edwards,
00:42the arranger who holds the most Panorama victories
00:45and the arranger of the 2024 Panorama Co-Champions Trinidad All-Stars Steel Band.
00:50New Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, Marilyn Gordon,
00:54a recipient of the Hummingbird Medal Silver,
00:57who is also a former Sport Minister, National Athlete,
01:01and an inductee into the Trinidad and Tobago Sports Hall of Fame.
01:06New Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts, Bertrand Kelman,
01:10a recipient of the Hummingbird Gold Medal,
01:12who produced and tuned the G6 bass which is used in the National Steel Symphony Orchestra.
01:19And New Honorary Doctor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Sinarine Persaud-Cousal,
01:25a recipient of the Shekonia Medal Gold,
01:28who is the Executive Chairman of Cousal's Group of Companies.
01:32Mr. Cousal spoke on behalf of the new Honorary Doctors.
01:36My fellow Honorary Awardees,
01:39it is a great privilege to stand shoulder to shoulder with you.
01:45Madam Chancellor, I can assure you,
01:48the award of Honorary Doctorate bestowed
01:51will be used to supplement my foundational principles
01:55to motivate young minds and add value to the lives of a younger generation.
02:05Each of you will have a different vision for your future.
02:09Some may choose to lead.
02:11Others will prefer to innovate or advocate.
02:14In deciding, keep in mind,
02:17you must be guided by the vision for a better world.
02:21The Chairman of UTT's Board of Governors, Professor Clement M. Bear,
02:25said that over the two-day period from Monday to Tuesday,
02:28over 1,300 students will be represented in the 2024 cohort of graduates,
02:34including a so-called legend.
02:36Marshal Jesus Montano.
02:51Mr. Montano received his Master of Arts degree
02:55in Carnival Studies from the UTT.
02:58He is a recipient of the Hummingbird Gold Medal.
