With the PSA signing on the dotted line, President General of NATUC, Michael Annisette, is labelling it a welcome sign. He says he anticipates that his members will be up next, including but not limited to, Port workers and government daily-rated workers. Rynessa Cutting reports.
00:00With public officers set to receive arrears and increases in salary with the signing of the 10% agreement,
00:07President General of Nattock Michael Anaset says he expects that daily-rated workers will be among the next batch of workers to get their just due.
00:17You know, we cannot live out anybody. Those government daily-rated workers represented by any chair of WRI, they do critical work.
00:28They rejected the six-year proposal by the government.
00:33Okay, so we are looking at close to the four collective bargaining periods.
00:40Anaset is reiterating his call for a 2015 agreement between the Port Authority and the SWWTU to be honoured, which could see port workers get a 12% increase.
00:53And we are very optimistic that that will be resolved, and we are hoping that we will be able to be creative enough to finish all the outstanding agreements, which is up to 2026.
01:09Anaset acknowledges that the government faces financial constraints, but he argues that increasing workers' salaries will redound to the benefit of the economy.
01:27Your economy is going to benefit, one, because there is a concept that we continue to argue in Nattock, which is job-led growth, one, wage-led growth, two, and a people-centred economy.
01:43We believe that is the only way that any democratic society can move forward.
