Consistency is the call.

And it’s coming from the West Indies bowling coach James Franklin who is demanding that the men in maroon will need to focus on being consistent if they are to salvage the ODI series against hosts Sri Lanka.

The Windies lost the opener in a weather affected match and Franklin expects the conditions to be spin-friendly in their upcoming match.

00:00The West Indies went under the Sri Lanka by five wickets on the DLS method in
00:04their first ODI in Palukeli on Sunday. Sat 232 from 37 overs, the Sri Lankans
00:10achieved it in 31.5 overs. Windies bowling coach James Franklin says the
00:15bowlers have to improve going forward. We probably weren't as good with our
00:21execution with the ball yesterday. I think that'll be a general reflection is
00:27that I think going into the next game we can be a lot better with our execution
00:31of our lengths particularly and look yeah we're one nil down in this three
00:37game series. We've got a couple of days now to reflect and work on where our
00:42improvements lie going into this next game here in Kandy. As was the case in
00:47the first match, Franklin expects the pitch to once again favour spin. The
00:52West Indies were 185 for four in the 39th over when rains cut short their
00:56innings. I think from a batting point of view you know we just need to show good
01:02intent against these Sri Lankan spinners. They're high quality spinners. We
01:07know that in this part of the world you know having a good batting game or good
01:12strategy a good method against spin bowling from a batting point of view
01:15goes a long way and being able to execute that and yeah it comes down to
01:19us being confident with our method and and executing it on the day and putting
01:23Sri Lanka under pressure both with bat and ball. Franklin knows playing Sri
01:27Lanka in their own backyard is a test in itself for the men in Maroon. As such he
01:32wants his team to get its act together to stay alive in the three-match series.
01:35We know we have to keep improving and keep trying to move ourselves up the
01:42rankings in terms of the ICC table so we're coming here to Sri Lanka they've
01:48always been a good team in their own country a strong team a team that is
01:53difficult to beat in their own conditions and we know we've got a huge
01:56challenge these next couple of games but we we know that even yesterday whilst
02:01the game was certainly one-sided probably if you look at the overall game
02:07we know that we there were significant moments in the game yesterday where we
02:11were on top. The second ODI is on Wednesday and the last one on Saturday
02:15with the matches starting at 5 a.m. TT time. Vinod Narwani, Chiefs Export
