00:00:30We are history, we make history.
00:01:00The Champions League today, it's the visit of Falkirk, the quarter-final of the League Cup,
00:01:05and Celtic looking to book their place in the draw, which will take place this afternoon after this game.
00:01:11Already there, Motherwell, Aberdeen and Rangers, and Brendan Rodgers hoping that this team that he has named this afternoon
00:01:19will be the team that books their place in the semi-final draw.
00:01:23Eight changes from the team that won 5-1 in midweek.
00:01:27The three players who stay in the side, Kasper Schmeichel, Calum McGregor and Real Hattati,
00:01:32so Celtic line-up with Schmeichel and goals.
00:01:35The back four this afternoon is Anthony Ralston, Aaron Trusty, who makes his first start,
00:01:41Steven Welsh comes in and Alex Vahey makes his debut for Celtic at left-back.
00:01:45Midfield trio of McGregor, Hattati and Paolo Bernardo, he comes in to replace Engels,
00:01:50and then a front three of James Forrest, Adam Ida and Luis Palma,
00:01:55a very strong starting XI for Celtic nevertheless, with a strong bench as well,
00:01:59Scott Bain, Greg Taylor, Kiyoko, Nicholas Koon, Yang, Holm, Naroski, Engels and Colby Donovan.
00:02:06The Celtic manager has enjoyed this week so far, of course Wednesday night was a bit special,
00:02:12but he will be focused on this afternoon, let's hear what he has to say ahead of kick-off.
00:02:19Brendan, you've made a significant number of changes today, how much of that is important squad management
00:02:24and how many have been enforced on you?
00:02:26A few reasons really, one, we've got a few that's enforced,
00:02:30so Cam and Ali are players that have been playing with little bits of niggles,
00:02:37in particular Cam, so it's a chance for us to take them out,
00:02:41so for them it's enforced.
00:02:45Secondly, I think I've made changes because I can,
00:02:48we've got a strong squad and we trust the players coming in to function how we would like.
00:02:54And thirdly, because out of respect to Falkirk,
00:02:57I think that the team have done very well, they've had a week to prepare
00:03:02and it's always the challenge coming off a really high moment that the attitude is right
00:03:06and that you have fresh legs put into a game like today,
00:03:09so the freshness in the team should hopefully really help us.
00:03:12Two of those changes and fresh legs included Austin Trusty and Alex Valley,
00:03:16it's a big afternoon for them to make the first start at Celtic Park.
00:03:19Yes, I think that's why you always have to be careful when you're putting players into the team.
00:03:24Some you can throw in, I didn't feel that we needed to do that,
00:03:29the players have been playing never so well when they've come in,
00:03:31but there comes a point when you have to give them that opportunity
00:03:34and they've now had a few weeks to assimilate how we work and observe and be involved in it
00:03:40and now they can come into the structure with a much better idea of how we work.
00:03:45I know you have a good relationship with John McGlynn
00:03:48and you think very highly of him.
00:03:49Just how impressed have you been with the work he's done at Falkirk
00:03:52and the run that they're on at the moment?
00:03:53Super impressed, I think, just watching them in the preparation leading into this game,
00:04:01because I hadn't, with all due respect, spoken to John over the years,
00:04:06but not seen the team play so much.
00:04:09But in preparation for this game, I've been really impressed with the structure of the team,
00:04:14the offensive nature of the team, the idea that he has to attack and press.
00:04:19So, yes, I think that, again, another reason for having the fresh legs,
00:04:24because we need a good energy today.
00:04:26Given the victories they've had on the way here at Dundee United,
00:04:29they've beaten Hearts, they're bringing a huge support and the Forum,
00:04:32would it be safe to say this is a top Premiership side team in anything but everything,
00:04:37but name, today that we're playing?
00:04:39Yes, I think the club, it's had a long history in the Premiership.
00:04:44So, yes, like you say, a cup competition coming to the biggest club
00:04:49is a great day for the supporters.
00:04:51But for us, we want to get into the semi-final
00:04:54and that's why we put in a fresh team to give us that energy
00:04:57and just to keep this mentality going and this attitude and quality of football.
00:05:02We're at home and we've got a great opportunity.
00:05:05Good luck today, Brendan.
00:05:06Cheers, thank you.
00:05:35You can download that and you can buy your tickets.
00:05:37Member supporters must be over 18 to play.
00:05:40And please visit thegambalaware.org.
00:05:43Joining me in the commentary position today here at Celtic Park, Peter Grant.
00:05:46Peter, went through the team, eight changes to manager,
00:05:50I think one of the most telling things is he made the changes because he can,
00:05:53and I think that's an indication of the strength and depth he's got in the squad now.
00:05:57Most definitely, and I'm really looking forward to watching the back four,
00:06:01how Valle is going to come in, how Trusty is going to come in and play.
00:06:04Because the left-back position is completely different now,
00:06:07where it used to be you were overlapping and you were defending your back post,
00:06:11now you're playing as an extra midfield player, so that's going to be interesting.
00:06:14How Trusty plays in this, I know he's played in a back three,
00:06:16and that down in England with Sheffield.
00:06:18So, their performances are going to be something I'm looking forward to.
00:06:23Admittedly, the pitch speaks for itself.
00:06:25Up front, we've seen these boys before now, it's up for Palmer,
00:06:27and that to put a knock on the manager's door.
00:06:29I think his attitude looked better this season.
00:06:31Last season, I thought his head went down when his performances went.
00:06:34So, I'm looking forward to this, and Adam Ida, I think,
00:06:36getting that form back that he showed when he came here last season.
00:06:39So, it's a really strong side.
00:06:41But I keep saying, Paul, Celtics' hardest moment should be the training ground,
00:06:45because when you see this squad, the guys that's on the bench,
00:06:47and the boys that play week in, week out,
00:06:49that's where the most competitive games could be,
00:06:51and that's great credit to what they've built here.
00:06:53Well, the two sides that are playing this afternoon have got two of the last eight,
00:06:57by virtue of knocking out the two big two in Edinburgh.
00:07:00Falkirk beat Hearts 2-0 in the previous round,
00:07:03a very impressive performance and result for John McGlynn's side.
00:07:06Celtic played host to Hibernian,
00:07:08and here's a chance to look back and see what happened
00:07:11when the Battle of the Greens took place here at Paradise.
00:07:20Carter-Vickers.
00:07:22And Liam Scales.
00:07:24Regular centre-half pairing now for Celtic.
00:07:29Johnson leaves that one for Koon.
00:07:32Nice switch of play there.
00:07:33Hattati in to Dyzen Maeda,
00:07:36and it is the opening goal for Celtic.
00:07:40Beautifully worked goal involving Nicolas Koon,
00:07:43Real Hattati, the ball in the middle,
00:07:46and that man there, he's been asked to play a central role up front,
00:07:49and within four minutes it has worked to great effect.
00:07:52Dyzen Maeda makes it Celtic 1-0.
00:07:55Simple but so effective,
00:07:57just simple passing, keeps himself onside, which is great.
00:08:00And he just puts it in the box, Maeda gets there first,
00:08:04if he crosses Strayker and you get to that front post,
00:08:07that's exactly what he's done, he gets a wee bit of fortune,
00:08:09takes a little bit of clip-off to go for the goalkeeper.
00:08:25Lovely ball over the top, Maeda, can he get to the end of it?
00:08:36He can, and he's managed to find it, back of the net!
00:08:39What an opening this has been for Dyzen Maeda,
00:08:43two goals in 16 minutes.
00:08:46And Celtic are well in control of this cup tie.
00:08:50That's what I'm saying, you give good players time,
00:08:52you can't get the pressure on the ball,
00:08:54and you give that type of quality, you can see the run,
00:08:58but you've got the time to make the pass,
00:09:00and it's a wonderful, wonderful pass,
00:09:02it's just lifted over the top for Kuhn,
00:09:04he's taken it outside his foot, he's got a lovely little touch to it,
00:09:07and that's in the manager's selection,
00:09:09putting Maeda through the middle of the stadium.
00:09:12I think it's proven right.
00:09:14Absolutely.
00:09:25WHISTLE BLOWS
00:09:33WHISTLE BLOWS
00:09:34So Martin Boyle over this one on the right-hand side,
00:09:36Midway inside the Celtic half,
00:09:38as we approach the 35-minute mark.
00:09:41And it comes...
00:09:42Oh, it's headed into the back of the net!
00:09:45The Clebs have got one back, Kukerevic!
00:09:48Got on the end of the cross,
00:09:50he's a good header, you have to say.
00:09:53And out of absolutely nothing, the Hebs have got a goal.
00:10:16Oh-ho-ho!
00:10:17What a mix-up in the Hebs' defence!
00:10:20And Nicholas Kuhn was alive to it!
00:10:23An absolute calamity for Hebs.
00:10:27And they have gifted Celtic a third goal.
00:10:31Well, we said it, I don't understand why they're doing it,
00:10:34Big Bashiri, and I'm not being disrespectful to him,
00:10:36he doesn't want the ball,
00:10:38and you can tell that with his pass across the back line,
00:10:40but look at Maeda, puts him under pressure,
00:10:43to Ekpetita, who cuts back.
00:10:45If you're the Hebs' manager, you're going crazy,
00:10:47because you're telling me they'll put it in the corner,
00:10:49which is exactly what they'd done earlier in the game,
00:10:51and he's got so much time.
00:10:53But fair play to your front two,
00:10:55went straight after it, put them under pressure,
00:10:57you're not going out, he turns back,
00:10:59but Kuhn doesn't give up,
00:11:01he gets inside it, and deservedly gets his reward.
00:11:20I don't think Nicholas Kuhn's goal in the last round
00:11:23is gonna be one of the contenders for goal of the season,
00:11:25but certainly it was a good goal,
00:11:27both the goal-scorers from that day
00:11:29are named among the substitutes this afternoon.
00:11:32In fact, Dyson Maeda has just been given a rest,
00:11:34I think he had ran so much the other night,
00:11:37which the manager had made mention of.
00:11:39I can tell you that Falkirk have made just one change
00:11:41from the side that won 2-0 at Airdrie last weekend,
00:11:44with Finn Yates and Gary Oliver on the bench,
00:11:47a very good start to the season for John McGlinn Sider.
00:11:50Joint top of the Championship,
00:11:52Air United just ahead by virtue of a better goal difference,
00:11:55but Falkirk have played two games less,
00:11:57in fact they've only lost one game this season,
00:11:59so far that was a sectional League Cup game,
00:12:011-0 away to Air United,
00:12:03but we're facing a side this afternoon
00:12:05that went through the whole of the League One season
00:12:08last year unbeaten,
00:12:10which was very good,
00:12:13and John McGlinn has just carried that on with Falkirk this afternoon,
00:12:17and there's no pressure on them,
00:12:19and I think he'll probably be emphasising that,
00:12:21just go out there and give your best.
00:12:23Listen, there's no doubt John's done a wonderful job,
00:12:25he's continued it this season,
00:12:27it's a difficult club to manage,
00:12:29and the last person that's probably done as well as he had there
00:12:31was Peter Houston,
00:12:33and he was involved with Celtic as well,
00:12:35so great credit to them, they've learnt,
00:12:37John's been in the game a long time,
00:12:39his players are coming up against a different breed now,
00:12:41this is the difference now,
00:12:43they're stepping up a completely different level,
00:12:45this is the challenge for them,
00:12:47they've done very well in the championships,
00:12:49they play exciting football,
00:12:51pressing the ball, all the things that John wants from his team,
00:12:53but I think the Celtic team,
00:12:55if they turn up today,
00:12:57it's going to be a hard afternoon for them,
00:12:59and that's no disrespect to Falkirk,
00:13:01that's how close you think they are,
00:13:03but that's the gulf between Celtic and Falkirk at this moment in time,
00:13:05yes they'll get in the hard-to-win games of football,
00:13:07but I think you've seen the Coons goal,
00:13:09and the Eders goal,
00:13:11that's the biggest thing for Celtic this season,
00:13:13how hard they've worked off the ball,
00:13:15to create the chances and create the goals,
00:13:17and how hard they've worked to get the ball back as quickly,
00:13:19and I'm sure that's what they're going to be looking for in the team today.
00:13:21Celtic wearing the green and white hoops,
00:13:23Falkirk in their away kit,
00:13:25red top,
00:13:27a healthy crowd,
00:13:29just over 2,500 Falkirk fans
00:13:31have made the trip through this afternoon,
00:13:33obviously wanting to be at the home of the champions,
00:13:35but of course they are very much
00:13:37enjoying life
00:13:39under John McClint,
00:13:41who worked with Brendan Rodgers
00:13:43when Brendan Rodgers was here
00:13:45the first time around,
00:13:47and the manager speaks very highly of him.
00:13:49It's also a tournament that Brendan Rodgers
00:13:51was very fond of,
00:13:53it was his first trophy,
00:13:55that he won as Celtic manager
00:13:57in that invincible treble season,
00:13:59and he wants another visit to Hampden.
00:14:01Celtic over the course of the next 90 minutes
00:14:03will be looking to do
00:14:05just that,
00:14:07against the Falkirk side,
00:14:09who I'm sure will come
00:14:11and have a goal, but it's really all about
00:14:13what Celtic do,
00:14:15it's always the case, it's what Celtic do
00:14:17that dictates how the game's going to go.
00:14:19Well that's what I'm saying, I think
00:14:21you give good players time on the ball,
00:14:23and that's what Celtic have not been doing,
00:14:25they've not been giving opposition time on the ball,
00:14:27so that's what Falkirk are going to be testing at today,
00:14:29the pressure they've put under,
00:14:31what they're going to do, they're going to give the ball back,
00:14:33that's how they play, for sure,
00:14:35and that's where they've got their success from,
00:14:37but playing that under pressure,
00:14:39can you do that here at Celtic Park,
00:14:41when you're playing against quicker, faster, stronger players,
00:14:43and no disrespect, better players,
00:14:45so it'll be interesting, but I don't see Celtic
00:14:47changing the way they're going to do,
00:14:49but I'm really looking forward to seeing how the new boys go, that's for sure.
00:14:51Calum Scott the referee this afternoon,
00:14:53the VAR referee today
00:14:55is Andrew Dallas,
00:14:57but we are hoping, as we always do in these games,
00:14:59that that's the last mention on VAR
00:15:01over the course of the 90 minutes,
00:15:03although, of course, when it works,
00:15:05they're favourable to big fans of it,
00:15:07as we were on Wednesday night.
00:15:09Yes, of course, and that's what you always look for,
00:15:11but as you say, they'd rather all have it,
00:15:13let the fans enjoy it, let the players celebrate
00:15:15the goals they do in the old time,
00:15:17and that's what we're looking forward to,
00:15:19so we're hoping another victory in the triumph.
00:15:21It will be the visitors to get the game
00:15:23underway here at Celtic Park,
00:15:25as I mentioned, Monowell, Aberdeen and Rangers
00:15:27already in the draw for the
00:15:29semi-final, Celtic hoping to join them
00:15:31come the end of this game,
00:15:33the draw will take place after the end of
00:15:35today's match.
00:15:37The ball immediately given away,
00:15:39Bernardo strides through it,
00:15:41taking off his toes.
00:15:43That's Falkirk
00:15:45off Calum Miller.
00:15:47Five appearances for Celtic,
00:15:49and Brendan Rodgers
00:15:51was the man who gave him
00:15:53all five of those appearances, the ball played through
00:15:55to Adam Eder.
00:15:57You could get a touch
00:15:59on that one.
00:16:01Interesting, I said it was going to be
00:16:03the last mention of VAR, Peter,
00:16:05but not all the quarter-finals
00:16:07had VAR, it was, I think certainly
00:16:09here and at Eibach yesterday, because those games
00:16:11were televised, they had it, but
00:16:13I think some of the games they could choose
00:16:15whether or not to operate it.
00:16:17I disagree with that, I think every
00:16:19full competition should have no VAR,
00:16:21I think that's the easiest way
00:16:23to do it. Okay, the other ones have
00:16:25put it in, obviously the reasons why
00:16:27financially, I understand that,
00:16:29but I think the competition
00:16:31shouldn't have VAR at all.
00:16:34Steven Wills partnering
00:16:36Boston Trusty in the centre of defence
00:16:38this afternoon.
00:16:40No change defence,
00:16:42Trusty came on late in that game in midweek
00:16:44in his debut.
00:16:46He's looking forward to seeing
00:16:48Alex Valle at left-back
00:16:50this afternoon.
00:16:52You can see he's got that Barcelona
00:16:54bit when he stands in the pitch.
00:16:56You know, he's going high,
00:16:58he's coming inside, he's just comfortable
00:17:00in possession of the ball, as you've seen
00:17:02there just now, so it'll be interesting
00:17:04because it is slightly different.
00:17:06Bernardo, he opened up for him,
00:17:08thought about the shot, it's on his left foot,
00:17:10and it's blocked, it's another chance
00:17:12for Bernardo, well,
00:17:14Falkirk just managed, there was almost confusion there,
00:17:16I think two Falkirk players leaving the ball
00:17:18for each other.
00:17:20Bernardo I think eventually
00:17:22seemed to be the last option
00:17:24he decided he was to shoot, there was a couple of times
00:17:26when it almost opened up for him.
00:17:28And yet again, it's what I say about him,
00:17:30he's himself in such good positions to intercept,
00:17:32you know, he seems to run
00:17:34at one pace all the time, I keep saying,
00:17:36but he always seems to be in the right area of the pitch.
00:17:38Here come Falkirk,
00:17:40Miller, tries to cross that one in
00:17:42but it's blocked by Welsh,
00:17:44Forrest, brought down,
00:17:46James Forrest,
00:17:48wonderful assist from Adam Ida
00:17:50from midweek, he actually
00:17:52scored the last time these sides met
00:17:54back in April 2021
00:17:56in a Scottish Cup.
00:17:58Victory for Celtic here
00:18:00at Celtic Park 3-0.
00:18:04It'll be difficult to say what team James has not played against
00:18:06in a year since he's been here.
00:18:12He's definitely been a shining light
00:18:14since he came in at the end of last season,
00:18:16he gave the boost to the full group
00:18:18and his performances were excellent.
00:18:22Matati drifts over to the left,
00:18:24on that left touchline,
00:18:26he's just ahead of the Honduran,
00:18:28it's steady, plays it back to his captain,
00:18:32into the middle of the park, Welsh has a bit of space,
00:18:34immediately opens it up wide to the right-hand side
00:18:36to Forrest, Forrest threads it through,
00:18:38good chance for Bernardo again,
00:18:40he's inside the box, back to Forrest,
00:18:42puts it across and it's a fingertips save
00:18:44by Niki Hogarth.
00:18:46Well, you have to say, wonderful play
00:18:48from Celtic, it looks like it was floating
00:18:50into the far corner, good save from the Falkirk keeper.
00:18:52Yeah, it was, it was just a simple play
00:18:54but James is very positive when he picks up possession,
00:18:56follows his pass, Bernardo shows good feet,
00:18:58because back once James has dinked it
00:19:00then you think it's going in,
00:19:02but it's a wonderful save as you say,
00:19:04I thought the keeper looked a bit nervous at the start
00:19:06with his kicking, but what a wonderful save that is.
00:19:10Celtic with the corner, the ball delivered
00:19:12into the six-yard box and it's headed behind,
00:19:14another corner, Celtic with this early
00:19:16pressure,
00:19:18Sean Mackie just happy to see that one
00:19:20go behind for a second corner,
00:19:22so Falkirk have their goalkeeper
00:19:24up to thank,
00:19:26certainly,
00:19:28that will settle any nerves
00:19:30that he had, but again it's Palmer
00:19:32to deliver this one, near post,
00:19:34flicked on by Forrest,
00:19:36Welsh claiming for the handball, it's bobbing about
00:19:38and eventually Falkirk just took that one away
00:19:40and it's gone out
00:19:42and the trustee penalised for the challenge
00:19:44and
00:19:46a sigh of relief for Falkirk.
00:19:48It was, Stephen Welsh is very good
00:19:50at attacking the ball, but the ball was too low
00:19:52for Palmer, David Piffitt on some, Stephen Welsh
00:19:54had got three, and just on the clearance here
00:19:56the trustee just puts his foot up
00:19:58and here again we see that save
00:20:00from James this year, wonderful effort
00:20:02you think, all ends up it's in,
00:20:04it was fingertips actually.
00:20:06That's a top, top save,
00:20:08James Forrest so close to a goal,
00:20:12almost five minutes on the clock,
00:20:14goal is here,
00:20:16this League Cup quarter-final between Celtic
00:20:18and Falkirk.
00:20:24See I think that's good with John here, he's mixed up here
00:20:26he knows MacIver's good in the air,
00:20:28he's not tried to play out, which teams try to come here
00:20:30and prove that they're good at
00:20:32and keep getting caught.
00:20:34That's a goal from Forrest,
00:20:36the keeper could have probably gathered it
00:20:38with his hands there, as Adam Ida
00:20:40pulls him down, but I suppose when in doubt
00:20:42get it out, but he's allowed to use his hands.
00:20:44Yeah I think he was scared
00:20:46when he put his foot up there, he turned out
00:20:48it really because he was going with his hands at first.
00:20:50But as I was saying there, Falkirk
00:20:52using MacIver's, he's very good in the air,
00:20:54it gets him up the pitch a little bit
00:20:56and I think that's John's experience
00:20:58telling there, so Brendan knows
00:21:00tactically that he knows
00:21:02that they'll go long, you have to win the second ball
00:21:04and it's further away from Falkirk's goal, so
00:21:06to put less pressure on them.
00:21:10Free kick against the Championship side,
00:21:12Celtic just in front
00:21:14of the mouth of the tunnel.
00:21:18Chelsea's in space in the centre, so cool.
00:21:28First opportunity, always tough
00:21:30in these positions when you're up against someone
00:21:32like Greg Taylor for that starting place
00:21:34who's had such a fine starting season.
00:21:36Yeah, listen I think Greg's been outstanding
00:21:38since he came to the club, you know,
00:21:40because the role, there's not many can play the role
00:21:42where you can't play this
00:21:44and be so comfortable in it, because
00:21:46as I said earlier on, it's become different
00:21:48being a left back now, the expectations
00:21:50are different, the positions in the pitch
00:21:52you pick up are different, so you've got to give him
00:21:54great credit for that and I think his performance has been
00:21:56outstanding.
00:21:58Forrest again comes on off the right
00:22:00touchline.
00:22:02Not surprisingly, every red shirt
00:22:04behind the ball.
00:22:06Celtic move forward again,
00:22:08by it, looks inside,
00:22:10and again back to trusty,
00:22:12Kasper Schmeichel staying in the Celtic half,
00:22:14everyone else moving forward.
00:22:18Calum McGregor, a fine game by the way,
00:22:20just orchestrated everything in the middle
00:22:22of the park.
00:22:24Players into different positions,
00:22:26takes up the play again,
00:22:28three goals already, the Celtic captain
00:22:30this season,
00:22:32as Welsh curls it into the box,
00:22:34it's headed clear, straight back to Welsh,
00:22:36this time he looks out towards the right,
00:22:38Ralston on to Forrest,
00:22:40Forrest inside to Bernardo again,
00:22:42back to Forrest,
00:22:44he plays it behind the Portuguese,
00:22:46it's Falkirk on the break,
00:22:48Miller down this left flank,
00:22:50he's going to have to wait for some support,
00:22:52which does arrive now,
00:22:54and again Welsh read that one well.
00:22:56A bit disappointing
00:22:58for the Falkirk manager,
00:23:00few opportunities to commit men forward,
00:23:02but Celtic on the attack now
00:23:04with Palma and the goalkeeper read that one well,
00:23:06plays it out on the far side.
00:23:08Yes, it just shows you,
00:23:10Calum Miller should have put the cross in the box,
00:23:12if you're John McGlinn you're thinking
00:23:14you've already got the strikers and the defenders facing their own goal,
00:23:16so he put it across the front of them,
00:23:18but it was good defending the Stephen Welsh,
00:23:20because he stood up, intercepted him,
00:23:22had a good opportunity there,
00:23:24just less pace on the ball,
00:23:26I think it was just a skim off the grass,
00:23:28made it go too quick.
00:23:30Trusty,
00:23:32switches it out
00:23:34on the left hand side,
00:23:36Palma comes in again,
00:23:38knocks that one forward,
00:23:40plays it off,
00:23:42Falkirk player,
00:23:44Palma kept that one in,
00:23:46Celtic 2-1 anyway,
00:23:48skill from Honduran.
00:23:52The good thing about that one,
00:23:54Honduran speak Spanish,
00:23:56so that's the benefit
00:23:58of having the two of them together,
00:24:00going together,
00:24:02it's not as if you're trying to learn
00:24:04a language of someone you don't understand
00:24:06what each other are saying,
00:24:08so that gives a good balance there,
00:24:10I know it's a small detail but it may be important.
00:24:12Of course the manager
00:24:14will be able to pass on his instructions in Spanish as well.
00:24:22Palma again,
00:24:24on the left hand side,
00:24:26again,
00:24:28Celtic pressing so quickly,
00:24:30Hattati,
00:24:32looking for Eder,
00:24:34the Irishman,
00:24:36tries to knock it across,
00:24:38scrambled by Falkirk,
00:24:42decision in the end against Eder,
00:24:44good to see him get off the mark.
00:24:46It's interesting,
00:24:48I saw a start when Liam Skiles had scored the other night,
00:24:50it was the first time in 13 years
00:24:52that an Irishman had scored in the Champions League,
00:24:54and then we only had to wait
00:24:56towards the end of the game for another Irishman to do it.
00:24:58Absolutely,
00:25:00it's fantastic for him.
00:25:02I think he's looked sharper,
00:25:04I thought he came on last week,
00:25:06it was unfortunate not to get the goal that Palma kept himself offside,
00:25:08then his goal midweek was excellent,
00:25:10great ball as you said Eder from James Forrest,
00:25:12but I think he's looked sharper
00:25:14with the fact that pre-season
00:25:16he's probably been up and down what was happening
00:25:18and what wasn't happening,
00:25:20so to get that out there and playing
00:25:22is important for him and he'll be a massive asset
00:25:24for us throughout the season, I have no doubt of that.
00:25:2630 minutes on the clock,
00:25:28we're still awaiting the first goal,
00:25:30the best chance so far,
00:25:32that clicked effort from James Forrest
00:25:34which was well saved by Hogarth
00:25:36in the Falkirk goal,
00:25:38Kasper Schmeichel,
00:25:40very few touches,
00:25:42here comes Celtic again with Bernardo
00:25:44but the ball taken off his toes
00:25:46and Falkirk attack down the left-hand side
00:25:48with Tate,
00:25:50walks it across towards the right,
00:25:52does well
00:25:54and it's in the back of the net,
00:25:56now the ball bounces down,
00:25:58it looks like Valle may have been held back
00:26:00but McIver wasn't waiting
00:26:02and he plays it low to Kasper Schmeichel's left-hand side
00:26:04and with just over 10 minutes on the clock
00:26:06it's the championship side
00:26:10who have taken the lead.
00:26:12Yeah, I thought he's done well Valle
00:26:14because he's cut in at the back post
00:26:16and he's got inside his attacker
00:26:18because I thought the ball
00:26:20was going to be through to him,
00:26:22he's defended it well,
00:26:24then I don't know what's happened after that
00:26:26but to be fair to McIver I'm thinking go on shoot
00:26:28because as I say Valle does well here
00:26:30originally,
00:26:32just sort of pulled back a little bit
00:26:34but not enough to give a free kick
00:26:36but it's a great strike.
00:26:42Very low and just curled in
00:26:44at Kasper Schmeichel's
00:26:46left-hand post,
00:26:48just have to say that he hadn't really
00:26:50much to do
00:26:52and there was nothing he could do there
00:26:54and McIver...
00:26:56It's interesting to see what Rio Hattati does
00:26:58because Rio Hattati starts
00:27:00to jog up the pitch and then realises it's dropping down
00:27:02I don't think he realises
00:27:04the full-court player's there
00:27:06and I think he thinks the Celtic central defender
00:27:08I think it was trusty, was just going to walk out with it
00:27:10so
00:27:12as a midfield player you've got to do that job
00:27:14because if anything drops, I know it's a centre-forward
00:27:16that scored but your defenders have got to go deeper
00:27:18with the floor for the original ball
00:27:24Looking to get back on level terms
00:27:26as quickly as possible
00:27:28Something to defend
00:27:30only shown in the break
00:27:32how dangerous they can be but Celtic with
00:27:34another corner
00:27:36the third so far
00:27:40This time it's Carlo Bermado to deliver this one
00:27:42into the box, can he find a Celtic head?
00:27:44The ball curled into the six-yard box
00:27:46Wells challenges for that one
00:27:48and it's gone behind for the goal kick
00:27:50relief for Falkirk
00:27:52who lead here at Celtic Park
00:27:54by a goal to nil
00:27:56To be fair to them, they've started with a confidence
00:27:58I think they've not caused any problems for Celtic
00:28:00but they've started trying to do the things you can see
00:28:02John implements for his team, simple things
00:28:04I say the kick-outs, they've not tried to be
00:28:06clever with playing out from the back
00:28:08because they know they'll get pressed
00:28:10when they have done, they've went longer off the second ball
00:28:12I think that's the problem they have
00:28:14they've tried it twice now and they've been caught
00:28:16but when they go longer, they seem to cause more problems
00:28:18so
00:28:20that's for John, I'll be sorry
00:28:22but the players, listen
00:28:24let's try and make it successful
00:28:26they've just scored, why are you playing short?
00:28:28and this is what Celtic have got to pick up on
00:28:32Last time the goalkeeper does play it long
00:28:34looking for the goal scorer
00:28:36who knocks it, it's a chance for Falkirk
00:28:38into the box again, just not beyond
00:28:40Kasper Schmeichel's right-hand post
00:28:42it was far too tight there
00:28:44for the visitors
00:28:46again causing Celtic problems
00:28:48just with that long ball you're talking about
00:28:50Yeah, listen, I think more teams
00:28:52should use it because
00:28:54Celtic are too good
00:28:56they're too strong, they're too quick up front
00:28:58and you've got to make people defend them
00:29:00people see a long ball from you, it's a pass
00:29:02because it goes right into the striker, he wins, he's heavy
00:29:04the second one's running
00:29:06so you have to deal with it
00:29:12That one's quite trusty, the expense of
00:29:14a throw-in
00:29:16almost the provider there, the long ball
00:29:18from the goalkeeper
00:29:20just played it into the channel
00:29:22and just knocked it on
00:29:24and the angle, just too tight
00:29:26there, there was
00:29:28no danger in the end for
00:29:30But it shows you what Celtic's
00:29:32centre-backs have got to do, they've got to be able
00:29:34to deal 1v1
00:29:36and that's important because you see
00:29:38every week, Scales
00:29:40and Victor Vickers, they have to do it because
00:29:42the midfield push right on, the full-backs are
00:29:44playing near enough in the middle of the pitch
00:29:46so if it's 1v1, you have to deal with it
00:29:48and that's what they've done, they've won the header
00:29:50and the second one made the run
00:29:56No fault, got number 9,
00:29:58Maldy pleased with how his
00:30:00game has started, he's got a goal
00:30:02almost set up another goal
00:30:04on his side
00:30:06he'll lead by a goal to nil
00:30:08and that's the cup quarter-final
00:30:10they're on the attack at the moment
00:30:12they've all played forward, looking for
00:30:14Mackie, plays it to the far post
00:30:16and an offside
00:30:18decision
00:30:26I suppose it's a new team
00:30:28you know you've always got these
00:30:30cups, you're always going to have them because
00:30:32it's the first time these guys played together
00:30:34getting to know each other
00:30:36I know people think, oh that's
00:30:38I'm sure they should be better than this
00:30:40but it's difficult
00:30:42you know it is difficult when you're getting to know your game
00:30:44you drop off a level
00:30:48and as I say, Falkirk are turning around quite a bit
00:30:50ball into the channel again
00:30:52it's a chance
00:30:54this time trusty
00:30:56manages to clear it over on the far side
00:30:58but again, well
00:31:00the offside flag is up
00:31:04it's those runs
00:31:06into the channel that Falkirk are doing
00:31:08and they're finding their men
00:31:10John's experienced enough to know that
00:31:12he's played with two centre-forwards
00:31:14Celtic only play with two at the back
00:31:16so you've got to make them face their own goal
00:31:18and again, players like these guys
00:31:20coming into the game, Stephen's not at the game for a long time
00:31:22trusty's just coming in
00:31:24so you've got to see how they defend
00:31:26you've got to ask questions of them
00:31:28and that's what they've done so far
00:31:30with simple passes
00:31:32it's a long way to go
00:31:34you've just got to let the boys settle down
00:31:36it doesn't matter how many games trusty's played
00:31:38Valley's only a young man
00:31:40it doesn't matter how many games these guys have played
00:31:42they're still finding their feet
00:31:44Stephen's in the team for the first time for a long time
00:31:46not even been on the bench recently
00:31:48so Calum in the middle of the pitch is trying to get him to step out of the ball
00:31:50you can see him get forwards
00:31:52trying to get the centre-backs to step out
00:31:54sometimes that's not easy when you're just learning
00:31:56you know how to play
00:31:58where the full-backs are
00:32:00Tatti in space down the left-hand side
00:32:02Palmer inside by his back there
00:32:08back
00:32:10moves it back into the centre circle
00:32:12and again every full-court player back behind the ball
00:32:22pressing up towards the halfway line
00:32:24Celtic
00:32:26with Bernardo
00:32:28inside to Ralston
00:32:30has to connect back inside
00:32:34and Celtic building from the back
00:32:36switching it right to left
00:32:38Palmer on this left flank
00:32:40gets inside again
00:32:42drops that one forward
00:32:44looking for the run of Bernardo
00:32:46and it just goes beyond the midfield
00:32:48up, comes up from him
00:32:50behind for a goal kick
00:32:5217 minutes on the clock
00:32:54yeah but it's a great run
00:32:56he keeps himself onside
00:32:58he runs from deep
00:33:00there's a slight skim on the ground here
00:33:02he needs to near him up with the perfect ball
00:33:04but it's the right idea
00:33:06you have to get that midfield running beyond
00:33:08because if the full-court midfield switch off
00:33:10exactly as they've done there
00:33:12Bernardo ended up 10 yards away from him
00:33:14so it was an opportunity
00:33:16but just the ball as I say
00:33:18slid out the pitch
00:33:20full-court in possession
00:33:22still deep in their own territory
00:33:24just launched long by Donaldson
00:33:26Trustee lands that head up
00:33:30dropped wide out
00:33:32to the right-hand side
00:33:34to Aguilar
00:33:36who's trying to latch on
00:33:38to some of those forward balls
00:33:40from MacIver
00:33:42Celtic again in possession
00:33:44they're certainly enjoying the bulk of possession
00:33:46in this game
00:33:54Trustee, nice ball over again
00:33:56once more, Palmer's an option out wide
00:33:58in the left-hand side, Palmer
00:34:00up against Adams
00:34:02switches past two challenges
00:34:04back to Celtic's American defender
00:34:06MacGregor picks up the play now
00:34:12again to the Celtic captain
00:34:14walk up and make sure they get plenty of bodies
00:34:16behind the ball
00:34:18it's Ida towards Atati
00:34:20and eventually it's taken off
00:34:22away by Henderson
00:34:24at the expense of another corner kick for Celtic
00:34:26I just think if the quick in their
00:34:28passes forward
00:34:30doesn't allow full-court to get in, as you say
00:34:32to that deep shape
00:34:34you know everybody being compact
00:34:36because they're bringing the centre forward back
00:34:38the quicker you move the ball in when you're out of possession
00:34:40that's the better
00:34:42another set-piece opportunity
00:34:44another Paolo Bernardo corner kick
00:34:46into a packed six-yard box
00:34:48fires it across
00:34:50away by the goalkeeper and eventually
00:34:52comes off, a full-court player behind
00:34:54for Celtic's fifth corner
00:34:56he committed himself the goalkeeper
00:34:58but didn't do too well there
00:35:00he's got a lot of time to get both hands on it
00:35:02but he's obviously made his mind up, he's going to punch it
00:35:04and then that's what happens
00:35:06but the delivery's been good
00:35:08the last two deliveries have been good
00:35:10I must admit
00:35:12I prefer the in-swingers because I think you've got an opportunity
00:35:14to score all the time, but to be fair Stephen Welsh
00:35:16always tries to attack the ball and usually gets first touch
00:35:18but to be fair to him, Bernardo again
00:35:20he's headed clear
00:35:22at it
00:35:24has to roll it back towards the halfway line
00:35:26he's got a bit of space
00:35:28switches it across to his captain
00:35:32Celtic down the right-hand side
00:35:36still McGregor
00:35:42has to roll it back into the middle of the park
00:35:44trustees in space, Celtic pushing forward
00:35:46again, looking for the equaliser
00:35:50Atati, clips that one into the box
00:35:52he's headed on, it's a chance for Bernardo
00:35:54and he scores! Wonderful play
00:35:56Atati, the header on
00:35:58from Valle, his first assist
00:36:00and Paolo Bernardo, the powerful volley
00:36:0220 minutes on the clock
00:36:04and it's what a piece, brilliant goal
00:36:06you know what I mean, you see Atati lifting
00:36:087.40 as we spoke about
00:36:10if they're playing like that and they're playing deep
00:36:12go beyond them, they've done that
00:36:14it's certainly a header by Valle actually
00:36:16because he actually sees, if you watch
00:36:18his run here, he makes his run
00:36:20then the field picks it out
00:36:22it's a lovely little touch, but what a finish
00:36:24from Paolo Bernardo
00:36:26as I say, he's been outstanding
00:36:28he makes his runs, midfield's not went with him
00:36:30that's the problem you have if you don't do your job
00:36:34there was nothing the goalkeeper could do about that one
00:36:36as you say, a wonderful cushioned header
00:36:38from Valle, but the volley
00:36:40precise and powerful
00:36:42Celtic back on level terms
00:36:44Celtic 1, Falkirk 1
00:36:46a magnificent goal all round
00:36:48and listen
00:36:50they've not started pulling any shape or form
00:36:52Falkirk have done quite well in what they've tried to do
00:36:54Celtic boys
00:36:56just move the ball quicker
00:36:58we say it week in, week out here, but it's so so
00:37:00important, because teams want to get set
00:37:02in these blocks that they can't get the ball through
00:37:04the amount of attackers
00:37:06because we play our full backs inside
00:37:08sometimes that blocks things up
00:37:10that's why you have these extra runners and forward passes
00:37:12quicker

00:51:56It seems like the Falkirk fans will be enjoying what they've seen so far,
00:52:01but it's Celtic again on the attack with Ida, four men round them,
00:52:04still keeps possession.
00:52:07Can Celtic get the breakthrough before the break?
00:52:17Balls to the head of Forrest, inside to the goalscorer,
00:52:22Bernardo, wonderful volley,
00:52:24behind Celtic level.
00:52:28McGregor.
00:52:34Which moves forward, switches it across,
00:52:36these central defensive partners are about 20 yards from Falkirk goal.
00:52:41Back again, Falkirk just retreating deeper and deeper,
00:52:45Celtic just moving the ball left to right, right to left,
00:52:47looking for an opening, the captain's got it now.
00:52:50Switches it across, it's intercepted, Falkirk on the attack.
00:52:54It's fine, Celtic penalise for the foul.
00:52:58It's a moment that Falkirk can take a breather.
00:53:03To be fair, Valleys reacted well,
00:53:06Angierman's done well, he's always set you forward,
00:53:08go across a defender because he can't touch you if he's coming from behind.
00:53:11You're right, Falkirk have worked really hard,
00:53:14trying to close down the space that Celtic are playing in,
00:53:18and that's why sometimes I'd like the full-backs to go on an overlap instead of an underlap,
00:53:22because I feel as if all the bodies are central.
00:53:28It's been a long time since Falkirk have won at Celtic Park,
00:53:31April 1997, a 1-0 victory that day,
00:53:36towards the end of the 1996-97 season.
00:53:41This has been times when they have been out of the top flight for a good period of time,
00:53:46they're now edging ever closer to a return.
00:53:52A soft foul given there, but it's given Falkirk an opportunity
00:53:56to deliver a set-piece into the box.
00:53:59A dangerous position, the big men from the back will push up.
00:54:06I don't think that was a foul at all.
00:54:14Celtic have to defend this free kick.
00:54:17Six minutes of the 45 remaining.
00:54:22Calvin Miller will whip this in with his left foot.
00:54:25Plenty of aerial threat for the visitors,
00:54:29as Miller fires it across, easily again,
00:54:33into the arms of Kasper Schmeichel.
00:54:37The best delivery into the box, thankfully, from a Celtic point of view.
00:54:41Absolutely, because they do have the height advantage.
00:54:44Donaldson is about 6'6",
00:54:47and McKayla has shown he's very good in the air.
00:54:50If they float the ball like that, I think John will be very disappointed,
00:54:53especially Calvin Miller, because he's got an awful left foot.
00:54:55I thought he'd have definitely whipped it with pace,
00:54:57thankfully, as you said, he didn't.
00:54:59It was a good position for him.
00:55:02Falkirk again, down the right-hand side.
00:55:07With all of Trusty.
00:55:11Falkirk have another corner kick,
00:55:14and a second corner kick of the first half.
00:55:20So we have a large travelling support for Falkirk,
00:55:23looking to try for a better delivery into the box,
00:55:26to test Kasper Schmeichel.
00:55:28Plenty of men behind the ball once more.
00:55:30Calvin Miller will be the man to deliver this one into the box,
00:55:33looking for either Donaldson, the captain, or maybe Henderson.
00:55:39That's for the left foot, the former Celtic player.
00:55:44Plenty of players inside the six-yard box.
00:55:47Into the last five minutes, one apiece here at Celtic Park
00:55:50in this league cup quarter-final.
00:55:52Miller scoops it into the air post, it's headed away.
00:55:56And the free-kick goes against Falkirk.
00:55:58That was a better delivery, but brave defending there.
00:56:01Welsh has stayed down, I think he'll be OK, hopefully.
00:56:05Yeah, the media done well at the front post area.
00:56:07I think it's Adam who gets the header on the ball.
00:56:10Stephen's always a warrior in there, isn't he?
00:56:14I think he gets pushed in to Adam, but Adam does great at the front post area.
00:56:18He makes sure he gets the first contact, which is always important
00:56:20when you're playing against teams like that.
00:56:22Obviously that's a strength of his, with the height.
00:56:32Schmeichel, trying to find Ralston.
00:56:35The ball's out of play for a throw-in.
00:56:40Trying to take the quick throw-in.
00:56:45Trying to steal a few yards as well.
00:56:47They have the throw-in still.
00:56:50Does that rule change when we used to take the throw-in
00:56:52if it was in the wrong place and you gave the ball back?
00:56:55Is that rule still in play?
00:56:59No idea.
00:57:00Exactly, they've changed that many times now.
00:57:03Flipped on.
00:57:04Comes on by his foot.
00:57:06Keeps it in play.
00:57:08A nice defender.
00:57:10Spins past two men.
00:57:12Good play from the Celtic captain.
00:57:15Got too many options for him.
00:57:20Celtic try to pass the way out of trouble there.
00:57:23The ball into the box.
00:57:25It's short.
00:57:26Muller did well to spin round and hit it on target.
00:57:29Schmeichel is positioning the spot on.
00:57:36They played some good football, but they never got out of the area.
00:57:39Credit Falkirk, they've tried to play up the pitch a bit.
00:57:42You're trying to play out.
00:57:46It's probably his first mistake with the ball there.
00:57:49He could be proud of his first half.
00:57:55Maguire tries it to Ida.
00:57:58Ida tries forward.
00:58:01Thought about the shot but he's moved over to the right-hand side.
00:58:04Ralston in support.
00:58:06Still Adam Ida.
00:58:09Celtic force back.
00:58:11Falkirk.
00:58:13Again, working hard to try and deny Celtic the space.
00:58:17Not too many options for Adam Ida down that right-hand side there when he got the ball.
00:58:20The ball.
00:58:26Ralston.
00:58:35The last two minutes.
00:58:36I can't imagine there's too much added time at the end of this first half.
00:58:41John Maguire might be happy to get in on level terms.
00:58:45I'm pleased with how they performed in this first half.
00:58:47Of course, taking the lead.
00:58:48They're having to defend at the moment.
00:58:50Celtic with the ball.
00:58:53Force back up towards the halfway line.
00:58:56And all the way back to Kasper Schmeichel.
00:59:01I think there's no doubt Falkirk will be delighted with the way the first halves went for them.
00:59:05And obviously, as I say, I think Celtic have just got to play quicker.
00:59:08I think they're probably, as I say, under-lapping too many times going into space.
00:59:12And that's why I think they'll probably shake your foot back.
00:59:15Listen, the way players get on position and try and get round the corner in between them.
00:59:20Ida did well there.
00:59:21It was Falkirk's player trying to shepherd that one out of play.
00:59:25But he's gone inside a corner.
00:59:27Good play there.
00:59:28Determined play from management.
00:59:30Not giving up a lost cause.
00:59:31And it's given Falkirk a set piece.
00:59:33Celtic's sixth corner.
00:59:34This time it's taken quickly.
00:59:36Gattati, edge of the box.
00:59:38He's dispossessed.
00:59:40And Miller.
00:59:46Throw-in goes to Falkirk.
00:59:48The set piece comes to nothing.
00:59:50And then we have 30 seconds of the 45 remaining.
00:59:53We've seen this Calvin Miller chance again.
00:59:55He did well just to spin round.
00:59:57And Clippett Goalworths didn't really trouble Casper Schweinke.
01:00:01No, it didn't trouble him.
01:00:02But the problem you were going to have there is it slightly turned the deflection off Stephen Welch.
01:00:05And if it takes a bigger deflection, there's a possibility it moves the ball away from the goalkeeper there.
01:00:10So it was a half chance for Falkirk.
01:00:16Falkirk will be pleased that the play is up at the Celtic end.
01:00:25In this last minute.
01:00:27One added minute of time at the end of the first half.
01:00:30As the ball is knocked forward.
01:00:32And again, it's Falkirk.
01:00:35Falkirk to the far post.
01:00:36It's a header and it's a goal.
01:00:38Finn Yates steers this one into the back of the net.
01:00:42Well, it was a composed header.
01:00:44There was nothing that Casper Schweinke could do in an added time at the end of the first half.
01:00:50Celtic find themselves trailing by two goals to one.
01:00:55You've got to give them credit.
01:00:58They've done well in the final third.
01:01:00As I say, they've asked questions.
01:01:02We've put the ball in behind.
01:01:03It's a lovely flighted ball.
01:01:05Whether he's meant this for the HCC, I'm not sure.
01:01:08But as you say, it's an excellent header.
01:01:12Well, they had to cushion that header and just find a space where there was no one there.
01:01:17Well, we were just talking about Falkirk.
01:01:19Maybe he'd been happier just to get in at the break.
01:01:21Won a piece, but would be delighted now having taken the lead for the second time in this game.
01:01:26Finn Yates scores the goal.
01:01:31He's given his side what I imagine will be a half-time lead.
01:01:35Celtic one, Falkirk two.
01:01:42So there's a check, a VAR check for a possible offside.
01:01:49It should come to Celtic's rescue.
01:01:52But indeed, it's not.
01:01:54VAR check completed and the goal stands.
01:01:57So, scoreline here as we approach half-time.
01:02:01There's the referee, Calum Scott.
01:02:04It takes a few seconds to blow for half-time.
01:02:08Does it make for great leading?
01:02:10Celtic trailing by two goals to one.
01:02:15Trailing by goal to nil.
01:02:16Paulo Bernardo cancelled that out, but it's the visitors who score right on the stroke of half-time.
01:02:24And there indeed is the half-time whistle.
01:02:27So a surprising result from Celtic Park.
01:02:31Peter, there's Celtic one at half-time trailing by two goals to one.
01:02:34Yes, listen, Falkirk.
01:02:36Listen, they've mixed their tactics up.
01:02:38As I say, the times they've tried to play out for the back, they've been caught.
01:02:40When they've went longer, they've caused Celtic problems.
01:02:42And they know there's obviously the fact that the full-backs play inside the pitch.
01:02:46So they're leaving that space so it becomes a race between the centre-backs and their strikers, who are very quick.
01:02:51So, listen, Falkirk have done themselves great in the respect of that.
01:02:55They've put the ball in the box and asked questions.
01:02:57They've saved offers.
01:02:58You'll be disappointed that they've not worked their goalkeeper enough.
01:03:00Apart from maybe James Forrest's effort and the goal for Bernardo, which is an excellent goal.
01:03:05They've not worked their goalkeeper.
01:03:06I don't think they've had enough crosses and shots in the box.
01:03:09And I say against this opposition, you have to go on the outside of them.
01:03:13I think that the gaps between are not there at this moment.
01:03:16So use the outside and that will give more opportunities.
01:03:18Well, we certainly are hoping for better in the second half.
01:03:21But half-time here in this League Cup quarter-final at Celtic Park beats Celtic one.
01:03:26Falkirk two.
01:03:27We're going to take a break and look at some classic matches between Celtic and Falkirk from years gone by.
01:03:33We hope the second 45 will be more of a classic,
01:03:36and we shall return shortly with the second half action.
01:03:39It's such a chance.
01:04:00Thiago just got down to that.
01:04:03Great effort, and I'm sure we'll see more of that from this Polish international.
01:04:10No hesitation.
01:04:14Swings away now.
01:04:16Telfer, will he let fly?
01:04:18He does! Brilliantly saved!
01:04:23Matt Glennon showing that he has the professional touch.
01:04:33Thompson.
01:04:36Thompson puts it down, and once again Celtic now beginning to pour attackers into that area just in front of the box.
01:04:52Lyman trying to get away there.
01:04:55There's a lovely little ball through the middle.
01:04:59And there's an appeal for a penalty, it's been given.
01:05:03The challenge there by Kamara.
01:05:07The referee was right up for the play, there should have been a shorted goal, I have to say, by Daryl Duffy as he went through.
01:05:19And there it goes.
01:05:21Falkirk, astonishingly, a one-up.
01:05:24They've had what you might call one-and-a-half attacks at home,
01:05:29and their brave little battler supporters cannot believe it.
01:05:36Thompson with that great left foot of his, nobody behind him for Celtic though.
01:05:42Nakamura.
01:05:44Little flash by him on the far side, that's a decent ball going in.
01:05:49Petro, couldn't bring it down quickly enough and he's annoyed with himself.
01:05:54Punching the air in anguish and frustration.
01:05:59Pressure still on, Thompson, you want to let fly.
01:06:04Couldn't quite get the position for himself.
01:06:07There's Hodgson, he's done it again.
01:06:11So many times he's got Celtic out of the jam.
01:06:19It was ever so simple, ball from the left, looking for the man.
01:06:25It was absolutely superb in the air like that.
01:06:29All the way by McManus, now here's Bologna.
01:06:34Likes to take a defence on like this, beautiful little ball, through!
01:06:39Hodgson did not get hold of that, but it wouldn't have mattered, the flag was up.
01:06:44There he is again.
01:06:46Nakamura, can he turn quickly enough, he does.
01:06:50That's a decent ball in again, Thompson was after it.
01:06:54There's Gunn.
01:07:00Picked up by Petro, tries a simple ball again.
01:07:04And there's a great shot and it's a purple!
01:07:14That is what Thompson is capable of.
01:07:18One swift, incisive thrust.
01:07:29Wesley going on, here's Petrov.
01:07:33Down he goes, that'll be a free kick.
01:07:38He's time about it, Bologna's at the side.
01:07:41Bologna might go for it as well with their right foot.
01:07:44It is Thompson, it's in!
01:07:48And he is part of the match for that.
01:07:51Two superb strikes and the goalkeeper, Matt Glennon.
01:07:57Simply watched it, almost an invigorating admiration.
01:08:01Mark Stewart.
01:08:03Garfield.
01:08:08Jon Stewart.
01:08:09Worked wide by McBride for McNamara.
01:08:13There's Pat Craig.
01:08:16And Jon Stewart's onside, Michael Stewart in the centre.
01:08:19Garfield waiting for the ball back, he went for glory himself.
01:08:22Garfield forces a good save out of Boric.
01:08:24And Celtic survive their first nervy moment of the afternoon.
01:08:28Garfield's shot, well saved by Adam Boric.
01:08:35Cheap throw for Celtic then.
01:08:39Fenerbahce link, Bullen dived in and won the ball cleanly.
01:08:43It's a goal kick.
01:08:50He won the ball cleanly enough, Lee Bullen.
01:08:52It's a man as well.
01:09:10McIvera's in, swinging delivery, it's a brilliant goal!
01:09:15Steven McManus with a breakthrough for Celtic.
01:09:19And off, possibly the shoulder of McManus.
01:09:23Well, I say shoulder, might have been the arm.
01:09:32Higdon.
01:09:33Good attempt, good save.
01:09:40Just had that little bit of time to be able to bring it down onto his favourite right foot, Michael Higdon.
01:09:46Maloney.
01:09:49And still Sean Maloney, it's a lovely through ball for Giorgio Samaras!
01:09:532-0!
01:09:57Intelligent play by Maloney, the quality of pass, quite superb.
01:10:03Afton's tried to play Samaras offside and failed.
01:10:06And the finish was a formality.
01:10:10Come on, still there!
01:10:12And McGeady.
01:10:17Maloney with another lovely touch for Samaras!
01:10:20Straight on the ledge, Nick.
01:10:24McGeady for Maloney, a delightful touch for him.
01:10:31McManus, and still McManus, and still McManus!
01:10:36Well, that was a little bit too easy.
01:10:38He couldn't score his second of the game, but he managed to stride forward imperiously from halfway.
01:10:47Couldn't have been a late kick from 25 yards.
01:10:51Wilson for Maloney.
01:10:58Well, he deserves a goal.
01:11:00Well, he deserves a goal.
01:11:05Always there with a little trick, Sean Maloney.
01:11:19Maloney for Samaras, back to Sean Maloney, a lovely touch for Samaras!
01:11:24Straight through the goalkeeper, but it was a move that deserved a goal.
01:11:33A strike partnership, very much in its infancy, but one that could yield some significant reward for Celtic this season.
01:11:43What a touch from Maloney to find Samaras.
01:11:45Lovely ball from Samaras, but that is just delicious.
01:11:52Nakamura.
01:11:54McGeady.
01:11:57And Wilson!
01:12:00Really close.
01:12:04He's making his 50th appearance for Celtic today, and he's never scored for the club.
01:12:09He's making his 50th appearance for Celtic today, and he's never scored for the club.
01:12:14Don't remember him ever coming as close as that.
01:12:16Don't remember him ever coming as close as that.
01:12:37We've got three games here to make this hell for the other team.
01:12:42And we do that with our attitude and energy.
01:12:46It's as simple as that.
01:12:50We do that, the quality will come through.
01:12:54This becomes a really difficult place.
01:13:04So that's the mentality. Paradise is for us.
01:13:07It should be hell now, starting today and these next three games.
01:13:12Okay, good luck. Let's go. Come on.
01:13:22It must be now, and it is! And it's Nicholas Kerr!
01:13:25Goes for the short, Adam Ida!
01:13:34Quick message before we go.
01:13:42CELTIC
