00:00He may have retired many years ago, but cyclist Emil Abrahams still represents the Twin Island
00:06country in the Masters category.
00:09On Sunday, the 50-year-old clinched silver at the UCI Grand Fondo World Championships
00:13in Denmark, with the race being over 150 kilometers.
00:17Yeah, representing Trinidad and Tobago, again after nine years since the Pan American Games
00:22in Toronto, felt really good.
00:26I just, you know, decided to come and do these World Championships, and I'm really happy
00:32I came.
00:33Putting on TNT colours again, and pulling off a silver medal for the Twin Island state
00:39is definitely an accomplishment, and right at Independence Weekend, so, you know, it's
00:46my gift to TNT.
00:48It's obvious that Abraham can no longer do what he achieved as a youngster.
00:52Having said that, the Tobago-born rider still accomplishes a lot.
00:56So what actually keeps him going?
00:57I think cycling is one of the sports where you gotta have a lot of passion, and that
01:04passion is in my heart, is in my soul, is in my blood.
01:09And I think that drive just keeps me going.
01:12My body keeps reacting to the training, and my legs keep having the power, so with that,
01:22I'm able to go out there and still perform, and still enjoy the sport.
01:26In order for athletes to bring on their A-game, a lot depends on lifestyle.
01:30Abraham is no different, since he also rides with a club based in Atlanta, where he's based.
01:35You know, when you're a tough athlete, you have to keep a good diet, and a good regime
01:42for how you keep your body, and that way your body reacts better to intense activity.
01:52In any sport, and so I just eat well, I mean I don't have any real particular diet, I just
01:57don't eat a lot of junk, and just do your training.
02:02You have to know how you manage your training in terms of like how much rest with how much
02:09intensity.
02:11Abraham plans to return to the Caribbean soon to take part in the Tour de Bim in Barbados,
02:16plus the Tobago International Cycling Classic and Cycling on the Avenue.
