A Festival Marred by Tragedy
The attack took place during the “Festival of Diversity,” a three-day event celebrating the 650th anniversary of Solingen. What was intended to be a joyous celebration filled with music, food, and family-friendly entertainment turned into a nightmare. The festival's first day saw the Bergisch Symphony Orchestra scheduled to perform, but the mood quickly shifted to one of fear and sorrow as the attack unfolded.

Swift Response from Authorities
Emergency services responded rapidly to the scene. Images from the festival show a significant presence of ambulances, police vehicles, and even a helicopter circling overhead. Despite the chaos, witnesses reported that festivalgoers remained calm as they were evacuated from the area.

Police have deployed all available resources, including additional personnel and vehicles, in their search for the attacker. The public has been urged to stay away from downtown Solingen as the manhunt continues.

Mayor Expresses Grief and Solidarity
Tim Kurzbach, the mayor of Solingen, took to social media to express his deep sorrow and solidarity with the victims. "This evening, all of us in Solingen are experiencing shock, horror, and great sadness," Kurzbach wrote on the city’s official Facebook page. "We all wanted to celebrate our city’s anniversary together, and now we have to mourn the dead and injured."

He also extended his prayers to those still fighting for their lives and thanked the rescue and security personnel for their tireless efforts. "I ask you, if you believe, pray with me, and if not, then hope with me," the mayor added.

Festival Disrupted, but Community Remains Calm
Despite the shocking nature of the attack, witnesses reported that the evacuation from the festival grounds was orderly and calm. Local media showed images of the now-empty festival area, save for the emergency vehicles and police officers still on site.
