00:00In a rare and devastating attack on Wednesday, Russia struck the city of Lviv in western Ukraine,
00:05leaving seven people dead, including three children.
00:09This city, located hundreds of kilometers away from the front lines,
00:13had mostly been spared from direct conflict until now.
00:17The missile barrage also damaged several historical buildings, adding to the city's heartbreak.
00:23This assault comes as Ukraine undergoes a significant political shift.
00:27Several key ministers, including Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, have offered their resignations.
00:34President Volodymyr Zelensky is pushing for a major reshuffle to bring what he called
00:38new energy to his government during this critical time.
00:42Russia's aerial attacks have ramped up in intensity since Ukraine launched an
00:46unprecedented offensive across the border into Russia's Kursk region last month.
00:51In Lviv, Interior Minister Igor Klimenko confirmed
00:55seven people have died and the search and rescue operation continues.
01:00Forty others were wounded, with schools, medical facilities,
01:03and part of Lviv's historic centers sustaining significant damage.
01:08Lviv, known for its UNESCO World Heritage Old Town,
01:12had largely been spared from the harsh strike scene in cities further east.
01:16However, the latest attack damaged at least seven locally significant architectural landmarks,
01:22according to regional head Maxim Kozetsky.
01:25This tragic strike followed another devastating assault just a day earlier in the central
01:29Ukrainian city of Poltava, where 53 people were killed in one of the deadliest single
01:34strikes of Russia's invasion. Lviv, now a haven for thousands displaced by more than two years
01:41of war, is left reeling as Ukraine renews its calls for enhanced western air defenses
01:46and long-range weapons to target Russian territory.
01:50Meanwhile, Russia continues its advance in Ukraine's eastern regions.
01:55Moscow claims to have captured the village of Karlyvka, located about 30 kilometers from the
01:59strategic town of Pokrovsk, a key supply route for Ukrainian forces.
02:05Russian President Vladimir Putin boasted of rapid advances in the Donbass region,
02:09a hotly contested area covering Donetsk and Luhansk.
02:14As the conflict rages on, Ukraine is also undergoing a critical government overhaul.
02:19President Zelensky's effort to rejuvenate his leadership team is already in motion,
02:24with Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba's resignation following that of several
02:28other high-ranking officials. Zelensky, expressing the need for change, stated,
02:34We need new energy, signaling that the government is seeking to bolster its strength during this
02:38prolonged conflict. Parliament has already begun approving some of these resignations,
02:44with Kuleba's likely to be finalized later this week.
02:47In a separate but equally tragic development, Russian-installed officials in the Donetsk
02:52region reported that Ukrainian shelling killed three people in occupied eastern Ukraine.
