How the Attack Unfolded
According to Israeli military reports, the attacker, a Jordanian national, drove a truck to the crossing from the Jordanian side and opened fire on Israeli security forces. A shootout ensued, resulting in the death of the attacker. The Allenby Bridge Crossing, a key route for Palestinians, tourists, and cargo, was immediately closed after the attack.

The Allenby crossing, also known as the King Hussein Bridge, has seen few violent incidents over the years, but this shooting has heightened tensions in the region.

Jordan’s Response to the Incident
Jordanian authorities are currently investigating the attack. Jordan, which made peace with Israel in 1994, has been openly critical of Israeli policies towards Palestinians. The country has a large Palestinian population, and anti-Israel protests have increased since the beginning of the Gaza war. Following the attack, Israel also announced the closure of two other land crossings with Jordan as a security precaution.

00:05were killed in a shooting attack on Sunday.
00:08Israeli officials believe this could be linked to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which has
00:13now stretched on for 11 months.
00:16The attacker, who was identified as a Jordanian national, drove a truck to the Allenby Bridge
00:21crossing from the Jordanian side and opened fire on Israeli security forces.
00:26A gunfight broke out, and the Israeli forces eventually shot and killed the assailant.
00:32The Allenby Bridge crossing, also known as the King Hussein Bridge, is a key point for
00:37Palestinians, tourists, and cargo shipments.
00:41Despite its high traffic, this crossing rarely sees violent incidents.
00:45However, it has been temporarily closed following the attack, along with two other land crossings
00:51between Israel and Jordan.
00:54This shooting is yet another example of how tensions have surged across the region.
00:59The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, condemned the attack, drawing a connection
01:04to Israel's broader conflicts with Iran, Hamas in Gaza, and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
01:10Since the war began with Hamas' attack on Israel in early October, violence has been
01:15escalating, particularly in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
01:20Almost daily, Israel has been conducting military raids, and both settler violence
01:25and Palestinian attacks have spiked.
01:28On the same day as the border shooting, people also gathered to mourn the loss of Esener
01:32Ezdeh Eji, an American-Turkish woman killed on Friday during a protest against Israeli
01:37settlements in the West Bank.
01:40Her death has sparked international outrage, with the White House calling for a thorough
01:44investigation.
01:46Meanwhile, Gaza continues to suffer under heavy bombardment.
01:50An Israeli airstrike on Sunday targeted a home in the Jabalia refugee camp, killing
01:55five people, including two women, two children, and a senior official from the civil defense.
02:02Another strike hit the Eid family home in the Nusirat refugee camp, tragically claiming
02:07the lives of at least two girls.
02:10Gaza's health ministry reports that over 40,000 Palestinians have been killed since
02:14the war began, though it doesn't distinguish between civilians and militants.
02:19The destruction has been immense, with about 90 percent of Gaza's population displaced
02:24multiple times.
02:26The conflict started with a brutal Hamas-led attack on October 7th, killing 1,200 people
02:32and taking 250 hostages.
02:35Though many have since been released, around 100 remain captive, with a portion believed
02:40to have perished.
02:42Attempts to broker a ceasefire, led by the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt, have struggled to
02:47gain momentum.
02:49As the war drags on, the violence shows no signs of stopping, and peace remains a distant
02:54hope for many in the region.
