00:00Three, two, one.
00:06And they're off.
00:08Tens of thousands of people signed up to this year's City to Surf to support their favorite
00:13charity.
00:14Go City to Surf 2024.
00:18From beloved video game characters and superheroes.
00:20That's the most amazing thing about today is we are all superheroes on the inside.
00:24Everyone.
00:25Doesn't matter what time you do today.
00:27To real life heroes, like these 21 firefighters, each running in full gear, weighing 20 kilos.
00:34To raise money for the Burns Unit at the Children's Hospital at Westmate.
00:38Starting in Hyde Park and heading east, the 14 kilometer course went through the Kings
00:43Cross Tunnel, over the infamous Heartbreak Hill.
00:46My knees clapped out about at 7Ks, so it's been a struggle, so anyway, I'll get there.
00:53So of all clues, and finally down to the finish line at Bondi Beach.
00:57Amazing.
00:58It was so fun, best day.
01:02With 40 minutes and 49 seconds on the clock, Isaac Hain was the first to cross the line,
01:07followed minutes later by the first woman, Leanne Pompiani, with a time of 45 minutes
01:12and 37 seconds.
01:15This year, runners have raised more than $3.5 million for hundreds of charities, coming
01:20from tens of thousands of donations, making this one of the most successful City to Surf
01:25runs to date.
01:27The Norman family had a personal reason for competing dressed as cows.
01:32We're raising funds in memory of our daughter, Sophie, who passed away from leukemia when
01:36she was three.
01:37Her favorite animal was a cow, so we all do it for her.
01:42And all together now, we've raised over $100,000 for the City Children's Hospital Foundation,
01:46in her memory.
01:48Sophie's siblings, Zoe and Leo, ran in her name too.
01:52I hope we raise lots of money, and I hope the children's feel better.
01:56A special wish from one little runner, capturing the spirit of this charity event.
