90.000 runners take place in City2Surf in the rain

Ninety thousand runners have pounded the pavements of Sydney in the rain for the annual City2Surf fun run. For some it was all about setting a personal best. For others it was a chance to raise money for a cherished cause.

The early starters were doing their best to stay warm and taking last minute precautions.

Nervous because of the weather, but I'm doing okay otherwise, I'm ready for it.

There was a familiar face among the starters.

We're trying to raise awareness, so for me as a doctor and cancer patient,

trying to push the field forward by increasing people's knowledge.

Finally, they were off and running, with some enthusiastic supporters to cheer them on their way.

At Bondi Beach, Adelaide runner Isaac Hayne was first across the finish line.

21-year-old Bronte Oates from Sydney won the women's race just 43 seconds off the record time.
