00:00Let me give you this last bit of Steelers information for you.

00:07So, of course, Russell Wilson listed as quarterback one on, of course, every team's got to put

00:13out these dopey unofficial depth charts before their preseason games.

00:17Wilson listed as one, but Fields is going to start the preseason open against the Texans.

00:22Here is Mike Tomlin this morning.

00:24He says, absolutely, we have a very hot and heavy quarterback competition.

00:29I think everything is an audition.

00:32Everything that we do is an audition, not only for him, but for others.

00:37Very much is a competition.

00:39What happens in a stadium is weighted heavier than what happens in a practice setting because

00:43it's more game-like.

00:44Yeah, like, what do they do in the games is what matters.

00:50I still, and listen, I like Fields.

00:54I don't have a problem.

00:55I was excited they got him.

00:56So I like what he brings to the table.

00:59I think he can do a lot of things that Russell Wilson can't and vice versa.

01:04I think that for me, Wilson is better throwing the ball.

01:09I just think he's a better quarterback throwing, right?

01:12And this is a league that is all about throwing the ball.

01:16And that's just all there is to it.

01:18They don't even pay running backs anymore.

01:20It's all about wide receivers.

01:21So look, I still think they're going to start Wilson.

01:26If they start Fields, so be it.

01:27I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

01:29I know this.

01:30I think they're both talented and I think they're both better than what they've had.

01:35I'm sorry, but that whole Pickett, Trubisky, that was a nightmare.

01:41I mean, that's just all there is to it.

01:43I like Kenny Pickett.

01:44I thought he was a really good college quarterback and his time and experience in Pittsburgh

01:50was not a good one.

01:52It just was not a good one.

01:53So it is what it is.

01:54It doesn't mean he sucks.

01:55He could end up being, you know, a good quarterback in the NFL.

01:59You never know.

02:00He might play in Philly.

02:01What happens if Hertz goes down?

02:02Then you're going to see him playing whether you like it or not.

02:04So I still think he's got a future.

02:07I just think his time in Pittsburgh was certainly better on the collegiate side than the pro

02:12side.

02:13As a stealer, it just didn't work out.

02:15And these things happen, folks.

02:17These things happen in the NFL.

02:19This is, you know, the one thing I caught of that interview was the competition, right?

02:25You have to understand, like, he doesn't have the stress, Tomlin.

02:28It's the players that have the stress of having to earn spots, earn paychecks, make the team.

02:36Your boy Tomlin's in charge.

02:37He's the evaluator.

02:39He calls the shots with his people.

02:41But the fact is, they don't have to worry about losing their jobs because they don't.

02:44The Roonies aren't firing that guy, even though fans want him out every time they lose a game.

02:48They don't do anything in the playoffs.

02:49Tomlin, I don't think Tomlin has ever once come close to being fired by the Roonies.

02:53Not even close.

02:54I don't either.

02:55And I agree with you with something you said earlier.

02:57Russell Wilson's going to start week one for the Steelers.

03:01Now, I think that Fields is going to play well enough that he's going to have a short leash.

03:07Russell Wilson's going to have to come out and play well right out of the gate because

03:11if he doesn't, Scotty, I think Tomlin will quickly move to Fields.

03:16If they're not winning games or Wilson doesn't look great, especially after not being on

03:19the block.

03:21Unless it's such a stinker in those, let's say, first two games or such stinkers that

03:28you start in the third week and they don't do anything, then he starts thinking, all

03:32right, by week five, this is over.

03:34Like, you know, I think they're going to give him four games.

03:36They're not going to just get him one or two games and he doesn't do well and they bench

03:40him.

03:41I mean, they went out and got this guy.

03:42They didn't get him to bench him.

03:44I honestly think they're going to let him play.

03:47And if he implodes after four games, I would say they would make a change.

03:52But I think both of them play this year at some level, unless Russell Wilson goes out

03:56there and kicks ass and takes names and they win 10, 11 games, then you'll see Fields standing

04:01on the sideline for a year and then he will leave Pittsburgh as sure as I'm sitting here.

04:07There's no way that he is there to sit on the bench for two, three years.

04:12It's not happening.

04:14That guy can start right now on several crappy teams in the NFL.
