00:00Holiday weekend travelers in the southeast face that risk of flash flooding from Texas to Florida
00:04and into the Carolinas. We got heavy downpours and storms bringing airport delays and localized
00:09street flooding. Rough surf and rip currents are also expected beginning especially Sunday for the
00:14east coast. And farther to the north a surge of cool Canadian air is settling over the Great Lakes
00:20and the northeast. Temperatures are going to run about 10 to 15 degrees below the historical
00:24averages with record challenging lows and crisp days for the holiday weekend. We can take you now
00:31live 20 years after a disaster struck. Here's New Orleans right now and well life very different
00:37right now compared to 20 years ago. We are dealing with some rain showers and thunderstorms though.
00:42Yeah a couple showers out there you can see not a whole lot of folks with umbrellas. Some guys right
00:47there not even wearing shirts. So there you go that's one way to deal with the rainfall here
00:50on a Friday afternoon in New Orleans. Winds are picking up a little bit as well. You can see some
00:54of those flags right there gusting and flapping just a little bit. But overall yes we are tracking
00:59multiple severe thunderstorm warnings here to get you into the forecast. We'll go ahead and start here
01:03across the northern plains. This is some of the strongest storms that we've seen so far this
01:08afternoon as I freeze frame the radar. Taking a closer look here this is Loop County in Nebraska and
01:12this storm is definitely going to be capable of producing some large hail. Looking at the storm reports
01:18as of right now no reports for this particular storm as far as any verified reports of damaging winds
01:23or damaging hail but we'll continue to track that for you. As we go on down the line we have a couple
01:28of showers there south of Colorado Springs. None are severe. We have one little tiny severe thunderstorm
01:33warning in effect there for Baca County in Colorado about to cross right now. Most of the storm is now
01:38crossing into Kansas. I'm also going to point out that even though some of these storms aren't severe
01:43worn this storm right here is going to be producing some pretty good rainfall and it's also could
01:48produce some uh some small hail as well. So even though you're not you may not be under a severe
01:53thunderstorm watch if you're in the or a severe thunderstorm warning if you are in the severe
01:57thunderstorm watch region that area definitely heads up here as we head into this evening because
02:02we are going to see some strong to severe storms continuing to dominate the forecast. So northeastern
02:07New Mexico is where we see the strongest storms right now but as we go on down the line we're still
02:11going to see some pretty good storms here from central and the southern parts of New Mexico far
02:15west Texas as well. We'll be watching out for some pretty good storms but we also have some heavy
02:20rainfall continuing here across the southeast. As of right now no severe storms but there will be some
02:24pockets of heavier rainfall developing pushing into New Orleans. We'll also see some heavier rainfall
02:29pushing into Miami as well. So as we head into this evening here's an updated look at our watch that
02:35we are tracking there across parts of the high plains and the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. This is going to go
02:41until 11 o'clock central time. It's going to extend until 11 o'clock central at 10 o'clock there mountain
02:47time. This watch area kind of straddles the time zone there between central time and mountain time. So
02:53we're going to watch this very carefully Jeff here as we head into tonight. All right Damien in the
02:57northeast by the way we've been dealing with some thunderstorms. Not all bad news here in New England
03:02because we need the rain. We've actually seen a developing drought here in recent weeks after a dry
03:07August. You can see some downpours into parts of Maine into sections of New Hampshire, Vermont.
