00:00Notre Dame and Miami, you are looking live at the Orange Bowl in Notre Dame Stadium.
00:05I mean, this is one of the best rivalries you saw in the 1980s, early 1990s,
00:09that Lou Holtz and Jimmy Johnson, and we want to fight, and there's 30 for 30s,
00:12and legendary players in legendary football games.
00:16I don't know if we're going to get that tomorrow night, but my goodness,
00:18I'd love to see a standalone Sunday night college football game,
00:22Miami and Notre Dame, John?
00:24It doesn't get better than this.
00:25I mean, back in the day with the Catholics versus the convicts,
00:28I mean, unbelievable.
00:30Now, they haven't beaten Miami, what is it, the last six times?
00:33Obviously, when you look at Mark Richt and that team that were able to knock them off
00:38in just dramatic fashion, here's the thing for Notre Dame.
00:43Last year, they weren't just a good team.
00:45They were a great team on the road or on a neutral field, right?
00:49They were 8-1 in terms of those spots.
00:51Why is that important?
00:52Because they stepped up when the stage got bigger,
00:55especially against back-to-back games against Georgia and Penn State, respectively.
00:59They beat five opponents, Donnie, on a neutral field.
01:02Yeah.
01:02Penn State, Georgia, Army, Navy, and Georgia Tech.
01:06They won those road contests, including a road matchup week one against Texas A&M,
01:11by an average margin of victory of 23.6 points per game.
01:15They dominated.
01:16Wow.
01:16They held 10 opponents last year under 200 yards passing.
01:20Well, we know that Miami wants to throw it, right?
01:22They were 9-1 in those games and won by an average margin of not 23 points per game,
01:27but 33.6 points per game.
01:30What travels well in road environments?
01:33Defense and running the football, and that's what Notre Dame has in this matchup.
01:37Even in the 80s and 90s, Temple would come to town and play Miami in the Orange Bowl
01:40as the number one team in the country.
01:41And Temple and Miami would have, like, maybe, I don't know, 25,000 people in the stadium
01:46for the number one team.
01:47Miami gets up for big events.
01:49This is a big event.
01:50It's going to be a spectacle tomorrow night in South Florida.
01:52If we line the game up, Joe, minus 2.5 point favorite that came out,
01:55we're still sitting at minus 2.5s.
01:57There are threes now in the betting landscape, which means Notre Dame is a favorite.
02:00You look at the total, 53.5, Joe, that's dropping to 50.5.
02:04So let's start here at the quarterback position, and we'll go fighting Irish here.
02:07CJ Carr, freshman, huge environment.
02:10Game number one, when I look at the NFL, Joe,
02:12some really accomplished quarterbacks come in there,
02:14and their first-round draft picks, you know, just like we saw last year at Miami,
02:17he heads over to the Tennessee Titans.
02:19You don't make money on rookie quarterbacks.
02:21In college football, in this environment, how do a rookie quarterback stand up to that?
02:26Well, again, the unknown.
02:27That's the biggest thing.
02:28And I've said this with the breakdown.
02:31You have four starters coming back for Miami, not coming back,
02:34but that have transferred in.
02:36You have a new defensive coordinator.
02:38And even though they might be experienced to a degree, do they gel as a unit?
02:43That's the biggest thing.
02:44So that's where CJ Carr can have success.
02:47His total is 186.5 passing yards, right?
02:50So I always say this.
02:52Inexperienced secondaries in week number one is where the potential is for potentially a quarterback
02:58to expose them to some capacity.
03:01Top 10 matchup.
03:02You know you play ball communication, safeties to corners.
03:05And does Notre Dame mix it up from a formation perspective to give CJ Carr an advantage in this matchup?
03:13Because you've got to believe that Miami's going to take away the run first.
03:16That's what Jeremiah Love and that offense do better than anybody.
03:20They average 180 rushing yards per game.
03:22So they're going to play run first.
03:24That's where on play action, maybe CJ Carr could blow through this number.
03:28I like Notre Dame a lot in this game, and I do believe that CJ Carr could blow through his number in this matchup.
03:34It just feels like to me, Joe, when you take a look at the game script, like you see the total.
03:38Opened up a little bit higher, it's dropping a little bit.
03:40Doesn't it feel like this is a Jeremiah Love game?
03:42Because you have a young quarterback here on the road.
03:44It's going to be a hostile environment.
03:46And I've got to tell you, from last year, just betting individual props, Jeremiah Love damn near every single week made my card.
03:53He's a touchdown machine.
03:54He scores out of the backfield.
03:55If you throw him a pass, he can hit those long home runs.
03:58He can score on the goal line.
03:59Tell me about Jeremiah Love and how he factors into today's game versus Miami.
04:02Could be a Heisman Trophy candidate.
04:04We talk about top 25 battles.
04:06We talk about, you know, 2,000 potential yard rushers.
04:10Jonathan Taylor in the Heisman race five years ago came in third, right?
04:14Last 2,000 yard rusher.
04:16He rushed for 1,100 yards plus last year.
04:19Basically almost six yards per carry when he touched a rock at the end of the regular season.
04:2413 rushing touchdowns.
04:25And, oh, by the way, every time Notre Dame rushes for over 200, last year they were undefeated.
04:318-0 and won those matchups.
04:33By an average margin of victory, I keep going through these numbers, 35.2 points per game.
04:39The rushing attack will be critical to Notre Dame winning this game.
04:49My focus has been great.
04:51I know you've been great.
04:51Thanks a lot.
04:52I think, I love you.
04:52And my reason toine our animates is to clean down the hill around for the next year.
04:55As I stand out, I'm like, okay.
04:57I appreciate you.
04:58I'll be happy.
04:59Bye-bye.
05:00I love you so much.
05:00You're welcome.
05:01Bye-bye.
05:02Bye-bye.
05:02Bye-bye.
05:04Bye-bye.
05:04Bye-bye.
05:05Bye-bye.
05:06Bye-bye.
05:06Bye-bye.
05:07Bye-bye.
05:08Bye-bye.
05:09Bye.
05:09Bye-bye.
