00:00According to the Health Ministry, there have been recent reports of a few
00:04suspected cases of hand, foot and mouth disease. While the ministry states that
00:09it is not a public health risk, it is still asking people to be vigilant.
00:14Symptoms to look out for are fever, a loss of appetite, sore throat and feeling
00:19unwell. Painful sores in the mouth and a skin rash may also develop on the palms
00:25of the hands and the soles of the feet. A rash can also appear on the knees,
00:30elbows and buttocks. The symptoms usually go away on their own within a week or
00:35two and are generally mild to moderate. Hand, foot and mouth disease is contagious
00:41and spreads through coughing, sneezing, close bodily contact, contact with
00:46infected feces, for example, during the changing of diapers and also when
00:51touching surfaces or objects that have been contaminated with the virus.
00:56The ministry underscores that it is important to practice good hygiene to
01:00mitigate the spread of the virus. Alicia Boucher, TV6 News.
